Any pics of Shaved Handle installation??
Hey guys, I'm going to be shaving the door handles on my 37 Ford tudor soon. I've read the instructions and all the postings I could find but noboby seems to posts pics of the process or of the finished product.
I just like to see how other people did it so I can minimize the amount of mistakes I'll probably make......LOL! I'll be using bearclaw latches with the mounting kit and also the manual release cable for when the battery fails. I'm really interested in seeing your modifications to the door jams, manual cable placement, inside door opening mechanism, door popper placement, etc.
What worked for you and what would you do differently next time?
Anyway if you have any pics or advice I'd greatly appreciate it....

I remember an episode of Trucks, where Stacy showed how to shave the handles on a C-10. You may want to check the powerblocktv web site and see if you can find anything on it.I ain't dumb, I just ain't been showed a whole lot!

Unfortunately what I did on my 'A' roadster really doesn't translate to a '37 very well. What you have to do is to make sure that however you run the actuating rods or cables it is well laid out to miss the window and its' operating mechanism. Are you doing electric windows now? That might make things easier as well.Dave W

I don't think it will be too difficult to use my existing inside door latch mechanism on the new latches.
I'm accustomed to "leaking the sticky red stuff" but I'll try to minimize it where possible.

A suggestion, use rods rather then cables and pulleys to operate the doors - they don't stretchDave W

Do you have an additional locking mechanism on your doors or do you assume that no door handles is enough to keep most predators out?
If the car still had the original handles on it I don't think I'd bother with shaving them even though I like the shaved look. However, as I stated on my other thread, my dad put late 50's/early 60's push-button door handles on the car while I was away one weekend during our original build years ago. I hated them but he had worked so hard on it that I didn't protest. He's no longer with us so those handles must go......

the Mercs and the Ranchero are all shaved.... I use Dakota Digital solenoids and poppers, Bear Claw latches.... They cost a bit more, but excellent quality!Last edited by Dave Severson; 01-23-2008 at 09:12 PM.

Randy I came up with a couple pics of the jams on the Ranchero. It uses the stock latches as they are a really light pull. Because this will be a comp car, no electric solenoids on it, just some sort of release on the outside...Haven't built it yet, too busy on other people's stuff!!!!!!!! Anyway, the Bear Claw latches I usually use come in two sizes, mounting is very similar to what the stock stuff is in the pics.... Hope this helps... Thanks for the pics Dave. The whole process looks pretty straight forward. I'll do some measuring before I start cutting. That's always a good idea....LOL!
I'm curious about that Ranchero....the sides look like a Mustang.....what are you building there?

Seriously, it's just one of my creations. Had it going visually through my brain for awhile, then a friend of mine sketched it out one day over coffee. I got a good start on the body and chassis work, then got really busy again on customer stuff and haven't even blown the dust off the Ranchero in a year or so..... So many projects, so little time!!!!!!!
PS--The highest point of the roof is 47" at ride height.....and has room for a 6' driver inside it!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
