I'm with Bob. The stainless firewall would look great with some nice engraving done. This car should be special. I like the package from engine and body mods to the stainless firewall! Ken, you have made great choices so far. Just go with your instincts. You are doing fine with your build. Great job!

The work your friend did for the inside panels looks great, shame you won't see them until you open the hood, then when you do the whole engine compartment will be outstanding. You could spend hours just marvelling at every detail.

Thank you for all your opinions, It's pretty easy to pull the tank out of this thing so I guess I will leave it and if it looks funny I can always paint it.
Uncle Bob, I could of made the inner hood and side panels out of polished stainless Then you would need sun glasses to look at my engine compartment

Awesome Roadster
Awesome Roadster Ken, Really nice!
I have the LS 6 engine in my ZO6 Vette and it is a screamer. The LS7 is a monster and you get that magical "427" CID. That Oil Tank Idea is cool. Love you ideas and your shop. That is going to be one beautiful roadster. Whos wiring harness are you going to use with that complex "coil on plug" setup? Looking forward to following this build< Don Jr.Don Jr.

Thank you, the wiring is actually two systems. Ron Francis for all the normal stuff, then I'm using a GM off road computer to run the engine management system. Ron Francis is in the back of the car and the computer with that harness is under the dash.

I thought I would show what the engine compartment looks like with the side panels on. Everything clears but it is a bit tight.
I got the pedals in and the throttle arm mocked up and the shifter handle mocked up. All of these will match the brake and clutch pedals, just lighter weight material.

Great minds think alike, I guess!
What is cool about your car, Ken is all the one-off pieces that hold it all together. Interesting stuff for sure.

ted- thanks for the tip, but when you have a grandson with a DS, game boy, and a ipod I was asked to make sure there was a charger in the car

I thought I would show how my steering column is mounted. First there is a plate that I bolt to the firewall, this plate is bored to accept a oil impregnated brass bushing that the steering shat goes threw. I didn't want to see the universal joint or wiring for the turn signals so I built this cover with this tube that sits at the bottom with the wiring in it. Now everything is behind the toe panel.

I have been pretty busy, have got a few more things done on the never ending list. The hood and side panels are finally mounted. I'm so glad we double paneled the sheet metal. It's so strong and holds it's shape, all that is needed now is the final fit, body man's job. the little stud sticking out is to release the passenger side panel. The hood release is on the drivers side on the inside of the frame. You pull it once and the hood pops up with the little poppers (like a door that has it's handles removed) we just made miniature ones. The if you want the side panel off you pull it again and the top of the side panel pops out toward you and then it just lifts off. I will take photo's of this the next time I take them off. There is a lot of work in the lower mount. It woks nice.
One of the things that have always bugged me on the steel cars is the big gap around the door hinges and the way the door stops are traditionally done. So I made these stepped plates, there will be rubber glued on the flange and the plate will be bolted to the hinge so it will do two things. Fill the ugly gap when I open the door and be my door stop.Last edited by Ken Thurm; 10-31-2008 at 08:05 PM.
