Ken, you know that we'll follow every move.
Maybe you should ask your wife do the picture taking while you work. I tried to document mine that way but being almost a Luddite and not liking the "new" photo processes when I started hadn't made the change to digital so it got real expensive for film.Dave W

Ken, guys like me really do appreciate the way you show the details of your build. I seem to have the same problem with my rad, it runs the same temp ranges as yours. My expansion tank has the two holes in the bottom one flush and one with a standpipe. I figured the line from the rad cap goes to the lower opening but I don't know where to run the return from the standpipe. I've just left it open so far and it does boil over and leak out never returning to the rad.
What I gather from reading your thread is I have to run a line back to the cap some way and not just let it leak onto the street.

I LOVE to read other people's builds, and the more pictures the better. Sometimes you wonder if I am boring people with some trivial thing I have done, but then I remember how much I enjoy them and figure maybe others do too.
It's a lot of work to document a build because you have to stop after you do some step, sweep up the floor and pick up your mess so people actually think you aren't a slob (), then you have to wash your hands so the camera stays clean, and finally you have to take the picture. Finally, when you get all done for the night, and are bone tired, you have to download the pictures and do your post. I'm tellin' you, this car building stuff is hard work !
However, there is a real upside to doing it. You have lots of eyes watching you and waiting for the next update, so it keeps you moving and probably doing better work than you might do otherwise. It is also very nice to hear feedback and compliments from everyone. Makes working in a cold or hot garage so much more tolerable.
I've also loved watching your threads and builds Ken, because I know that you normally don't like to jump in the spotlight so much.........you are a very private kind of guy. But seeing you do more and more of these posts has been very cool, and you have taught us a lot about the right way to build a car. When I log on and see your thread come up I can't wait to see what the latest update is...........and that goes for all the builds that are going on right now.
Thanks everyone for sharing your projects with the rest of us.

Ditto Don's comments, and Don we enjoy watching your builds as well. Pictures make it become real." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

IC2-I will do that, but you really don't want to see my ugly mug!!
sgo70-You have it right, the stand up tube is for the overflow it goes out. I always fill the reservoir tank until it overflows. then if there is any air trapped anywhere in your engine and it moves into the radiator then the vacuum in the radiator will replace the air void with water/ antifreeze. After you are sure you have a full cooling system, no trapped air, then I drain it down until is is about 1/4 full.
Don- Steve- As always you guys are very supportive and considerate. I am the same way waiting for updates on everyones builds. I have used idea's from almost every build on this site. I may change then but the original idea came from something I saw.
My battery's are charged in my camera, I'm ready, tomorrow I will start on the new frame.

Ken you've just wrecked my vision of you.
I thought with the nice work you do,
that you were a designing engineer for all the auto manufactor's.
Just kidding Ken I love your clean work.
I look at your stuff then at mine and get this sick feeling
in my stomack. I'm glad you at the other end of the country.
This lessons the chance of you ever parking you stuff next to mine.
If you lived near me I would have to leave everything parked in the
back yard. Kurt

Well, I thought I would give a up date on the roadster. I put in on the Dyno today to get it's final tune up and actually see what kind of rear wheel horse power it made. It made 603 on the engine dyno when it was first assembled. things change dramatically when you bolt on rear wheels. and in my case all for he worse. apparently my air inlet and air filter are a real interference in air flow, it just can't breath in the higher rpm's. I really don't care I'm more interested in driveability, but I have to tell you I was really disappointed with the numbers.
On a more positive side the owner of the shop met me this morning and says to me I understand you knew my father. I said I don't know what is your last name, he says Ritchy. I thinking holly $%^$% this is Les Ritchy's son! I knew Les in the early 60's. I cleaned the gaskets off his oil pan for him. So the day wasn't all bad, except for the disappointing dyno Numbers and my fuel pump went out on me on the way home!!!
Ken
I'm having trouble downloading the dyno sheets............to be continued as soon as I get smart enough!!!!!!Last edited by Ken Thurm; 04-17-2010 at 05:11 PM.

Yeah Ken, 450 HP is really disappointing. You kidding me, that's very impressive. You should be very happy with those numbers. Sorry to hear about the fuel pump but that's pretty minor and it looks like you made it home ok.
Which of Les Ritchey's Fords did you work on, one of the Galaxies or Mustangs? Les was legendary. Is he still alive?

Wow 451 h.p. in that little lightweight roadster! I know it isn't the Mooney special Ken, but that's very impressive h.p. at the rear wheels for a street car! I bet you get a case of whiplash just jumping on it! Nice job." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Don & Steve - Yes, I agree for a light car it is respectable but, take this into consideration, I have a LS 7 in my Corvette, it has a Callaway air box and Corsa cat back exhaust, and a tuned computer. It made 486 rear wheel HP. The roadster has a Comp cam blueprinted tolerance's and long tube headers. The variable is the different dyno's. The corvette was run on a Dyna Jet and the roadster on a Mustang, which is known to be more conservative than a Dyna Jet.
I'm going to take it back again and take out the air filter. It there is a noticeable difference than I will make a new air inlet tube to the throttle body. In my opinion it should make at least 550hp I'm a hundred off somewhere and I think it is starving for air.
Don, I worked on his '63 1/2 fastback. His son and Ford are coming out with a new project in remembrance of his father.

WOW I just read from page 1-35 (well maybe not read but went over very well) and it took me over 4 hours! What an incredible build you have done and what a bar you have surly raised for the rest of us. It is very inspiring to see this kind of work being done and thank you for posting it all for us to see. I think I save over 50 pics of different little things that you have done that I may some day use or morph into my own little details for one of my builds. Well off to bed so I can stay up for the next hours or two just processing what I have seen. Did I mention I need to get up for work in about 6 hours

Kevin- Thanks for your kind words, if you just use one of the things I did on my car it was time well spent for me.
Thanks again.
Steve- My opinion is if you can you should always tune your project on a dyno, you would be surprised what you learn. and another way of looking at it, it sorts out all the weak parts real fast

A "skip" = a dumpster.... but he says it's proper english??? Oh.. Okay. Most of us can see the dating site pun, "matching" with an arsonist.. But a "SKIP? How is that a box? It must all be...
