    Hotrod Purchasing Question

I've been in the market for a 37 - 40 Ford sedan project car for some time and have been visiting the local rod swapmeets but mosetly browsing e-bay. I have a question about buying a car sight unseen from out of state. I figure I'm going to be taking the car apart anyway so sight unseen doesn't worry me too much, but how do you make a purchase like this without a face to face transaction? I'm a little leary of transferring a large sum of money without being handed a pink slip. Any suggestions on this? Anyone ever been burned that can provide some advice?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

First on ebay make sure of their ratings, check their feedback for people that have gotten burned by him, and check their feed back top to make sure they are not just whiners. Also be afraid of people wanting all the money within 10 days on something that needs to be picked up, Most will only want 10% down or something like that and the rest when you pick it up, look for one of those sellers, they are the best to deal with.

Hope these few tips help you out. Good luck

    buying sight unseen

I bought my '37 Ford sight unseen from my fellow in NY. I spoke to the seller for a couple of weeks and he sent detailed pics of the car. I was very lucky with my purchase..the discription of the car was "pretty much" what I had expected minus a few small details...with the quarter window frame condition..but all in all I was extremly lucky. If I had to do it again..I would definately look the car over before I bought it over the phone.

Consider a purchase from a source near you. I may be just lucky but some of the bigger ticket items I got from eBay were from local area sellers. I drove to them and saw the item. After I won the bid on some hubcaps, the seller turned out to be about 3 miles from me! I got a wheel from someone in the next town. Look at the sellers location and contact them about looking at it before buying. Couldn't hurt. If they won't let you drive over and look, don't bid.
