Shockwave Jet Truck, a triple jet-engine truck on a 260-inch (660-cm) wheelbase, holds the Guinness record for jet-truck speed at 376 miles per hour (605 kph). Driving on a runway, Shockwave races airplanes (Mig-17) that are flying above it at 300 miles per hour." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Pretty cool - except for the silly flaming stacks. There is no limit to what a man can do . . . if he doesn't mind who gets the credit. (Ronald Reagan)

I watched a few different videos of it reving up before running. In one a person is standing just a few feet away trying to get photos, right before the truck accellerates down the strip. I imagine you would get singed or at least blown sideways by the afterburner jet wash as it passed! I think I'd give it at least 10-20 ft!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

It's still a cool picture!

If those are real Migs, you don't have enough 0's behind the 10K.

Pat they were dumping them for awhile. I guess maintenance on the old ones was verty expensive. A friend of mine has a friend who bought one but is afraid to fly it and can't afford the maintenance it needs!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Off topic, but.. the Mig-17 used an afterburning engine patterned after the Rolls-Royce Nene, called a Klimov VK-1. Many of the Migs that are on the market are a Chinese version and quality is not great. Many owners have came to realize owning a Warbird is more expensive then cool. But if you got the buck$ go for it. If it needs maintenance, give me a call.

It came out with the VK-1, then in '53 thhe VK-1A with after burners, & the VK-1F, tested with the VK-5F but not used and back to the VK-1F.
In China, an initial MiG-17F was assembled from parts in 1956, with license production following in 1957 at Shenyang. The Chinese-built version is known as the Shenyang J-5
I like the early jets, I have a detailed scale R/C F-86 that is ducted fan driven, 5' long fuselage with drop fuel tanks. which cost 1/2 of what you say those Mig-17 sale for on Ebay. Which comes in kit form in 6 boxes.
At work we specialize in air foil, we make turbines for Rolls-Royce, lockheed, Garret-Airesearch, and our own turbos.
