possible spread
When i thought up these engine mounts i figured the clean look with no cross bar looked best . But as its sits and i'm tinkering with the stang i keep thinking about the downward pressure on the bottom of the rails . When i put them in i webbed inside the rails to strengthen mounts and try to make it one piece as much as possible. I did plan also on gussetts from mount to boxing plate . Since i have changed belt drive and can move the engine forward and thoughts of the cross bar has me rethinking. Most all if not all do have them mounted on a crossmember . Here is pics for the new members who may not have seen them and to bring back memories to the longtime members .

Bobby, if it makes you feel better, maybe run a 2 x 2 crossmember under the engine there to tie the two mounts together and resist downward twisting.
Is that what you were asking in your post?

Don i'm wondering if this will be a problem once its on the road . Just wondering if design is functional in its position being low on the rails . I see mounts sold that weld or bolt to inside of frame rails .

Cut out what you have and start over ---triangulate the mount from the top of the rail to the bottom of it and you will be fine---as a guide line I line up centerline of crankshaft with top edge of frame rail ( bottom of block on most engines)

I did the same style mounts as you and also had the same feelings about the crossmember. You can kind of see what I did, I bent some tubing around the bottom. It seems really sturdy but makes it a little tight if you have to pull the engine and tranny out together. Hopefully I wont have to do that again though.

Jerry with the factory mount the bottom of block is only about 1/2 inch below top of rail .

I see and like Don said maybe just tie them together . Sean and yep it was poking at me also . May just go with the bar with the ford mounts there cheap enough and i'm cutting labor corners where i can .
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
