knock off wheels
Have a '38 Chevy coupe that has had 4 owners work on it so far. I'm trying to find out what kind of wheels are on my ride. The previous owner told me that he thought they were quite old, perhaps even from the 50's??? No one has been able to I.D. them yet. I've attached a pic hoping that one of y'all might recognize them.
Thanks,
Rick

richarddeckert,
You are downloading a "zipped" image file, and it is not viewable on the forum. Unzip the file on your computer, then check to make sure that the picture is no larger than a 600 x 400 pixel image. Then save it in a "jpg" format. Download that file to the forum and everyone can take a look at your wheels. Maybe then you'll get some help.

Welcome aboard Richard.
The wheels have the look of a Halibrand sprint. Your picture is a bit fuzzy on my screen so I'll just throw out some ques.
Normally the Sprints have the Halibrand name cast in the face, either at the base of one of the "spokes" just a the edge of the center part that normally be the bolt circle. Sometimes it is cast further out toward the outter bead. Failing that have you looked on the back for any identifying marks?
Have you taken them off at all? That would answer my other question as to whether they really are a true knock off. Halibrand made the center cap with a knock off hub and the tri blade center nut, but underneath there still were lug nuts. Just wonder if you've checked that.
If there are no identifying marks for Halibrand then they are likely copies and most likely would be from the '70's or '80's. Actual Halibrands were made up until a couple years ago when the company went into another bankruptcy. I think they may still be operating under court direction but not sure.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
