OT escort shudder help
1994 1.9 L Ford Escort
OK guys i bought this escort and have a stumbler for me . It has a shudder after in OD that only comes in when the temp gage is in the high side of normal . The shudder is pretty violent and if i excelerate a little it goes away or if i let off gas it goees away . If i turn on the heat and drop temp down to lower normal it dont happen at all . I did notice the cooling fan dont come on till it hits the higher side of normal can i get this to turn on sooner with a different or newer relay . Would this be in the tune up at all a mechanic said it sounds like a light load miss fire dirty injectors . It has had new plugs and wires installed by previous owner . To me seems like drive line is shaking maybe trans being hot . I also did inspection and found the 2 inner CV joints slightly worn could this cause a shudder under light loads also .Last edited by bluestang67; 06-18-2008 at 07:07 PM.

I had a Tempo with worn CV's and 1 day when they went really bad. I had a shudder that shook the wheel from side to side violently. My mom had a '95 Escort that did the same thing you described, and it was said to be the injectors. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

once it warmed up it would do it.. we never did fix it because the repair cost was not worth it. car had 170k on it. my mom learned to drive it so it did not do it, and drove it that way for another 10k until it needed to much and we parked it...... Another thing we learned you don't do with those cars is hook the battery up backwards.. my brother accidently did ( after we retired it ) and it fried everythingYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

flh those ole chevette's are still running around . But if i drove one of them i would have a long walk in work parking lot .
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
