my first patch panal
My '51 Chevy needed a patch panel for the lower rear 1/4 as the bottom lip was rusted out.. this patch is available and I was going to get it, but I would have only needed less than 1/2 of the panal to make the repair. so being I just got the small HF planishing hammer, I decided to make it myself.... I picked up a small peice of 22ga from lowes ( expensive, I kno but the steel yard is closed on weekends ).. held it in place and drew a pattern on the back.. cut it out, then lined up the depth of the lip remains, and drew a line so I knew where to make the bend... Then I bent it real careful in my bench vise... Then I fired up the compressors and used the planashing hammer to round the bend for the bottom lip.. here is what I ended up with. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Looks good Matt! To me the sheetmetal work is the best part of the build-----as long as it's something custom.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I bought the Planashing hammer so I could build my own T bucket style body... now all I need is a 4' length of 22ga steel.. make the same curved angle as I did on the patch, over the 4' section... then once I cut it in half, I'll have 2 identical rear corners for a bucket bodyYou don't know what you've got til it's gone
