4 doors...?
I'm new to the whole hot rod thing and I'm hoping to get started on a project soon. Are 4 doors a no-no in the hot rod world? I've been a muscle car guy and I know 4 doors in that car scene are frowned upon. I personally don't seen too much of an issue with them, but I thought I'd ask here. The car in question here would be a decent 57 chevy sedan project. Is it looked at as more of a parts car?

Not really a no-no, but really lacking in the resale department....even the tri-5's suffer greatly when put up for sale....But on the other hand, you can buy them a heck of a lot cheaper.... Depends on what you want, I guess. Personally, I'd keep looking for a two door. If you can get the 4 door cheap enough it would make a good parts donor, or just build it the way you want it, but keep in mind getting your money back out of it is going to be tough.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Dave is pretty much right on his 4 door or mordor answer. But it also depends upon you. If you want a car to drive for a few years and then sell or trade, then the 2 door will likely be better. If you are looking for a rod to cruise in, and if you have a family who wants to cruise with you, then a 4 door may be more practical. I have a 4 door cruiser, satisfies all my needs, but I know it isn't going to bring big bucks on a sale. But then again, I won't care if it happens to be an estate sale.
I also know of a few 4 door street rods that are real sharp. But then again, it really is what you desire and what you expect from the car.Last edited by mopar34; 07-07-2008 at 01:40 PM.

Moredoors are getting more popular with the scarcity of the more traditional two doors. Like others have said, they're great for family touring. Find a good one, clean it up, and have fun! Sadly, most younger people don't even know the difference any more, anyway.

buy it and have fun with it , they make cool cruisers i have even seen a few gasser style hot rods made out of them , you could always do a moredoor /two door conversion as there are a few threads floating around about this as well ..

When I was in the Army 1964 my driver was a 57 Chevy bel air 4 dr. sedan. It was cool after I threw away the expensive trim pieces of today’s market. The rockets, the screen behind the grill bar, I kept the bar, took off the V, plus what ever else I could get to, and of course the hubcaps. I would be happy with another one today. I wasn’t afraid of it getting scratch marks, or road chips; it got decent mileage at 30 cents per gallon. It had really nice interior, and a great back seat for those nights at the drive in theater.
I was looking for a picture of it, by my dad’s new 65 Impala SS 396 ,boy that was a nice car, burgundy exterior, with black bucket seats.

I agree with Dave. For personal keeper, if you like the style then go for it. But if resale is in the future, the tudor will be the money maker!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

4 doors are getting more popular due to the prices, they are also easier to find, but 2drs are still more popular..
I have a '51 Chevy 4dr Fleetline Deluxe, 235/powerglide, and I only know of 1 other.. but it is still worth less than the 2drYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

I belive there were more years than '64's that had the Suicide rear doors but I'm not sure... There was a '64 Continential ragtop at the show I went to yesterday.. The cars that were never offered as a 2dr ( like the Conential ) will retain the value greater than cars sold as 2 and 4drs, but the value will still reflect the 4dr partYou don't know what you've got til it's gone
