Thread: Is a 47 and a 41 ford....

chassis interchangable? Ive got a good 41 chassis and found a decent 47 Ford coupe body. I think it should bolt up but Im not sure. Anyone know?

I don't want to swear to it, but I think 41-48 are essentially the same. I know they made some refinements along the way, like sway bars and tube shocks, but aside from that I think the frames are the same.

I hope someone gives you better info though.

i cant really say myself but due to war tooling i was always under the impression these cars were basicly the same , im just sayin , im could be wrong...

Yep, it'll work. Like Itoldyouso sez, the '48 had tube shocks, but no big deal to adapt them to the '41.

Yes they are the same, my 48 even still had radial arm shocks on the rear but the frames are all the same. I am sure that Fords were the same, then everything changes in 49.

Old Henry was very good about stretching out designs and components for as long as he had to. Even his successors inherited that trait.........look at how long of a run they got out of the Fox Mustang with no real changes (1979-93).

If you ever feeling like reading a biography, Henry Fords is great. One of my favorite things he did was to award the contract to the engine company that would let him design the shipping crates. He then would disassemble them and they would be used as the floor boards in his model T, they would fit perfectly and have the cut outs for the clutch and brake. Smart guy!

A little of topic here...but....if u ever get the chance to visit Naples, fl...the Thomas Edison museum is a must!!!.....its right next door to Henry Fords summer home and they were best friends in the day.....a lot of references to Henry are made at the museum......Its really a cool visit...!!!!

It's funny, but I have lived here since '85 and have never been there or to the Edison Home, which is a few blocks from my home. My family has been there and says it's terrific, but for some unknown reason I haven't.

I'll have to do that one of these days.

It's the same in Greenfield Village (by the Henry Ford Museum) in Dearborn. It's heavy into Ford but lots of Edison, Firestone and Bell stuff. Very cool if you get a chance.
