    Starting Point??

Over in the town of Belton, MO the South 71 Cruisers have a Cruise Night the 4th Saturday of each month Spring to Fall. Saturday we went over to check out the rides and one roadster pickup intrigued me -

I could not figure out what he had started with, but thought it was a late '30's car or truck that had been cut down into a custom roadster. A couple of guys were talking nearby, and it seemed to be focused on this little cream colored pu so I listened in for a bit - hand made bed, scratch built frame, etc, etc, but no mention of the body. Finally I tossed in the question, and about fell over when he told me....

1971 Volkswagen Beetle!! Amazing innovation! From the front of the bed to the cowl is Beetle - note the arched area at the lower front by the header outlet that is the former fender line filled in. Pretty slick for a bug, IMO.

What a small world, not to mention a small town. I lived in Belton in the late 70's early 80's. I swept and cleaned the shops at Fleetwood Chevrolet. And lived at 160th terrace and Ann. I am typing this as my lifes past is flashing before my eyes, thanks for triggering that mechanisim. Its been alot of years I am sure the dealership is gone, The house is probably a pit by now.

Live everyday like it were your last, someday it will be.
