Don,
I hope you have a safe trip. Knowledge is everything, maybe we can all learn something from this. It's really making more aware when driving my roadster.
Thank God for witnesses!!!

flippin' idiot drivers these days..... Thinking in the trailer is the safest spot, and even that isn't idiot proof.... Between drunk drivers, distracted drivers, and all these idiots that can't seem to drive without a cell phone stuck to their ear.... Guess there just isn't many of us around anymore who enjoy driving just for the sake of driving.
One of the few things I like about living in the sticks is being able to get out on some empty roads and play a bit...still have farm traffic and critters to worry about, but nothing as bad as all the lunatics in the cities!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Hi. I was reading this thread, and thought some of you might be interested in going to my myspace Hooligan HotRods and veiwing my pics of the unibody coupe. Im not trying to capitalize on anyones pain & suffering, dont mis understand. I think safety gets overlooked in this hobby some times. You never know what the clown in the other lane is going to do. I think that the Bodies By Bond 33 unibody coupe is just about as safe a street rod as you can get. Its worth looking at, it might change the way you think about building streetrods.

Not just the hotrods. I've lost two friends over the past 4 months with people pulling out of side streets or roads with out looking. One friend t-boned an old lady who never looked before pulling out with his new motorcycle. I see these people all of the time where I live. They come to a stop sign, and then roll on thru. Nearly hit one the other day with my streetrod. I was so pissed that I chased the SOB down in a shopping center and gave him a few "what the f**ks?"
People are in too much of a hurry, they don't think about the consequences for themselves or others.

Ken, I hope your friend pulls through this tragedy physically, mentally and financially. I had a bad one years ago, took a long time to get my head back on straight. Hope it works out for your friend.Bob

What did i miss guys?

and she got away. I have many choice words I would say about her, there's no way she would have missed the sound of the car careening over, the fact that she didn't stop shows she was worse than wreckless, he could have been there dying (collapsed lung without attention sounds pretty bad to me) and she just drove off. If I ever caught her and it were up to me I'd push for attempted murder.
Me, I would have taken the hit from her rather than mess with going off the road, take her with you. I have gone onto the paved shoulder to avoid idiots like this, but not off the road itself. hell, I drove a guy into a field when he tried to shove past me and I didn't feel like slamming on my brakes. I REALLY hate bad drivers.
list of things that irritate me (just a very short version)
-inconsistency (that's number one, if you drive slow, but consistently, I can account for it, if you constantly speed up then slow down and repeat all it does is make me want to bludgeon you)
-slow driving in the fast lane
-purposely blocking the gap so people can't get around the other slow driver off your front corner
-not getting all the way over out of the main lane when making a turn
I recently moved to an office further from my house, and one that requires I use the freeways, I seriously stay half an hour late every day because if I leave during rush hour my blood pressure sky rockets and you can see the black cloud of cuss hovering over my car.
and I saw somebody said cell phones were the big culprit, thats not true. bad drivers are bad drivers regardless. cell phones may make a bad driver even worse, but without the phone they'd still be a worthless steaming pile on the seat. next time somebody is driving in a way that pisses you off look over as you pass them, they aren't paying attention, I guarantee it. very seldom does somebody purposely drive bad, they're just so stupid they don't process information fast enough, and pay attention closely enough, to be good drivers.
I'm glad your friend is gonna pull through good, hope the car does the same, sad to hear he is under insured. its the pits man, it really is. tell him to look at the bright side, next time around he has a chance to not paint it yellow!

Since this tread has changed to morons on the street I will share this with you. Any of you that read my posts know about my wifes surgery. I have been very protective of her whenever we go out. I have a very long fuse when it comes to loosing my temper. About 6 weeks ago we were on our way to breakfast, I was turning into the driveway when this guys runs a red light and hits us. As we were spinning around I looked at my wife bouncing around in the seat and all I could think of was her knee being injured. I lost it, I got out of my car and ran to this kid and was trying to open his door when people from the restaurant grabbed me. I just wanted to beat him. I'm so glad they stopped me. My wife was O.K. and I got my car fixed, but I'm still not over it. Now when stupidity crosses my path they are paying the price from this kid.

Ken same thing happened to me with Monique on the back of the Harley in July, when a guy almost ran us into a concrete railing on a hiway overpass. He just wasn't paying attention. 20 minutes before a senior citezen with hearing aids in his huge car, looks over his shoulder out the window right at me, after trying to pass my friend ahead on the right when the fast lane was clear, and justs comes straight at me. I slam the bike brakes, swerve, only to have the@$$#h26 get stuck in front of me braking so he doesn't hit my friend in front of him. He then proceeds to flip me off when I have the audacity to honk at him!
I almost speed ahead to throw my allen wrench through his windshield, but it just wasn't worth it, but with my wife on the motorcycle, my tolerance for crappy drivers goes way down too!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Not a pretty sight, but could have been a heckuva lot worse if the impact were just a few feet further towards the rear. Glad to hear that both you and your wife survived. Kind of sorry to hear that the kid did too. He should have had a few more injuries for reminders about cautious driving and lessons learned. Injuries as a result of the accident, but not from you. That would have caused additional unwanted problems.Bob

Ken, I happy to hear that your wife wasn't banged up - with that knee problem of hers, neither of you need any more grief
My daily driver is not something that you want to mess with - but people still do on a regular basis. It's an F350 4x4 pickup. We don't have a lot of exotics - but the guy with the male menopausmobile Ferrari..........my front bumper, even with the OEM suspension and tires is the level of his windshield......
In my area it for sure is the cell phone users, OFs in their white Buicks, Chryslers and Mercurys and tree huggers in their 15 year old Saabs trying for another tenth of a mpg. Then the soccer moms with 2-3 kids in the minivan driving while babbling on her phone and eating or smoking or both. Did I say that in New York State cell phones must be hands free
Luckily, the traffic in the 'burbs of the NY Capital District area usually isn't too bad, so you have a chance to do defensive driving.Dave W
