One way to total a '32 Roadster
Last week end was the Labor Day cruise, it's a fun 3 days for gear heads. Get to catch up with old friends and see some new cars. It was nice to see some of the people from this site.
Saturday night we had a BBQ and just sat around and told lies. We all left together and headed home, as we reached our different freeways to our different homes we would wave good bye. Shortly after waving good bye to our one friend he reached his exit. Apparently a lady wasn't paying attention and at the last minute tried to make the exit, ran our friend off the road and sown a 25 foot embankment. He was ejected from the car, which probably saved his life, and thrown into a tree. The car barrel rolled 2 1/2 times. He is very lucky to be alive. He has several broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and severe contusions all over him from the branches.
Thought I would share.

OUCH !!!
I really hope your friend wont have any lasting effects from his injuries - he needs to get well and rebuild that car. Most of it seems to have held up very well and is salvageable.
That failed drilled front axle - my way of thinking, it just confirms what I had felt about them. You take away a bunch of their strength when you put holes in 'emDave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Glad he's not too badly hurt, even though "minor" injuries aren't so minor to the person with them. I would have crawled from the wreckage and killed her, that's gonna be hard to replace.

Sorry to hear about your buddy, hope he pulls through without long term damage. I am curious about the brand of body, looks to me to have held together fairly well in these severe conditions, im sure built knowledge helped, but that seems to be a stout body.

Hmmmmmmm, that is really bad. Sorry to hear about your friend but glad he survived what could have been so much worse. Don't know what is going on, but there have been thread after thread recently about cars running into hot rods. I guess it is just going to happen as drivers get worse and worse about driving safely. We rodders need to adopt 360 vision and cat-like reflexes, like motorcycle riders have learned to use, if we are going to survive in traffic.

Or we can drive bigger hotrods! Id like to see a honda run the panel off the road when it gets done.

Ken sorry to hear about your friend. Broken ribs and a collapsed lung are pretty serious. I'm glad to hear he survived with all his body parts intact. Sad to see a beautiful car like that all twisted up. It's sad that some people don't think the basic driving laws apply to them. I see people do crazy stuff every day on the way to work. With the real dangerous ones, I always make a mental note to see if they beat me to work at the hospital, in the back of an ambulance. Seriously the worst are the people chatting on their cell phones, instead of paying attention to the road. Don's right we all need to keep our motorcycle sense on full alert while out on the road. Hope your friend fares well Ken." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Sorry for the large photo's. The lady didn't stop. I visited him last night and asked him what he remembers. He said he saw the car coming at him, he was certain she would of broadsided him if he hadn't moved. The next thing, he was on a gurney and he saw his car upside down. He is really sedated and has no idea how bad his car is. The photo's don't show how bad it really is. I really think the body can be saved and the engine, then miscellaneous stuff, gages steering wheel, thats about it, it's a 5 speed, but it's broken. Maybe the center section in the rear end but that's about it. I think the body is a Brookville. There is a lot of round tubing in the "B" pillar area. I think this kept the doors from opening.
I want to thank all of you for your best wishes, he is really a nice guy.
This accident has more bad news, insurance. His car is totaled and he is way under insured. This is something I don't pay much attention to, my wife does all this. After talking to him I got thinking, I wonder if he has enough insurance to replace this thing and are my cars covered for replacement value.
When I got home I asked my wife what the cars are covered at. She says, "what ever you told me they were worth".
After looking at our policy's we have them valued at probably half of what it would cost to replace them. I wonder if you guys are covered in case of a loss? I'm not trying to pry just something that might help in case of a loss.

Wow! That's terrible! Way too many accidents in the last year. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. That drilled axle is troubling. I have a Magnum on mine but when I had my incident in Feb- it held strong. Frame wasn't so lucky.
Under-insured? Man that sucks. I have my cars appraised every 2 years & have agreed coverage through Grundy. They covered every dime of my accident. My biggest worry was what shop to take it to.
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
