Went to a car show, with pictures.
Yesterday I saw a sign advertising a car show here locally, so last night I actually washed my T for the first time since Thanksgiving in Daytona. I told Don about it and he wanted to take his too, so this morning we got there about 10:30 or so, and we were about 12 cars from them shutting off admission....the place was jammed, must have been over 300 cars there.
It was sponsored by the local Corvette club, so there were a bazillion vettes of all years and descriptions there, but it was open to all kinds of cars, so there were hot rods, customs, antiques, muscle cars, and some vintage super stockers too. They were out of parking spaces and had to put us in a line with all the other guys who sleep in on Sundays.
The show was supposed to end by 4 pm, but at 4:30 they were still judging cars, they simply had a bigger turnout than anticipated. So I needed my afternoon nap, and left before trophy time, but Don stayed there. About a half hour later he called and said "you should have stayed, you won second place in the T buckets, but I won first!" He said he went up to get my second place trophy and the guy handing them out said "this is gonna be ugly, you beat your Dad out for first place!" Pretty darned sad state of affairs when these young whippersnappers start stealing our glory. Actually, I'm thrilled for him, his car deserves to beat mine, it's lots nicer.
Anyway, here are a few pictures I took of some of the more interesting stuff. I didn't take a ton of pictures, because it was really hot today and I spent most of the time looking for shade. Hope you all enjoy the few I have here.

Those are some great pictures Don, thanks for sharing. And I'd have a hard time judging the "T's", they're exceptional.Ken Thomas

Thanks for the pictures, I'm curious about the Studebaker Bearcat. Any picture that show the whole car?
Thanks

Thanks guys. I usually leave before trophy time because my car really isn't a trophy car, just driver quality. That's why I'm surprised if and when I do get one.
Pat, I actually meant to get you pictures of not only that Bearcat one, but also a black 53 that was there, chopped top, prostreet style with big blower sticking out of the hood. The Bearcat one was bone stock, and I was going to shoot a side shot but too many people were in the way, so I snuck in and shot only the engine and interior shot (the one with the drive in tray on the window) Sorry bud, I thought I would get back the the cars and get some for you but I got busy gabbing to a few old friends I ran into and never got back.
If I see them at any other local shows I will make a point of taking some shots for you. Oh, the Bearcat one was sort of pinkish.

No Problemo Don, Glad you guys ahd a good time. Also liked that Poncho with the clothes pins on the fuel lines! Talk about period correct! Was that a light weight front end car? I noticed the deep groove alternator pulley too.

Yeah it was an old school remedy for vapor lock. The clothes pins were supposed to work like a heat sink and draw heat away from the fuel line.

OOOOOOOO......that '61 Pontiac is deeeeeelicious!!
Pats got a good eye. Looks like the hood is cut for the SD scoop.
Since it was a Corvette deal, did you have to wear gold chains to get in?Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

It did have a scoop on the hood. I was surprised to see that style on there, I didn't know Pontiacs used that kind. It almost looked aftermarket, but I knew on a nice restoration like that one that they wouldn't deviate from the real thing.
There was a story card with the car and they said it was found in an Arizona junkyard, stripped of all it's racing stuff. It was really a very sharp car, and evidently a high dollar one too. I would have thought you would have liked the Dodge more Bob. It is sorta like one you have or had, isn't it? BTW Bob, what is the story on that pretty red coupe in your avatar?

The Pontiac scoop story is even more interesting, assuming they used the "factory" one. It's actually from a Ford, super duty truck, late '50s early '60s. I like that Dodge too (though I prefer the stripo 330 to the 440shown), but I've got one of those, though mine's a '65 rather than '64, but I've never had a '61 or '62 SD Pontiac. It's always the one just out of reach isn't it?
The new avatar is some artwork I found on the web that just struck me as a nice piece of work. '36 Ford 3 window is one of the cars high on my list to acquire................I've got a thing for '36 and '40 Fords, they keep coming into my life for some reason.
Here's the best picture I could find quickly with the scoop. Ford usually mounted them "backward" for ventilation rather than intake as you saw on the Pontiac.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 01-04-2009 at 08:07 PM.
