350 olds Diesel
Could anyone tell me anything they know about the olds 350 diesel. Like performance build up or using the block to make a kick a$$ engine. I heard that you can put a 455 crank in a diesel block to stroke it. I dont know if that is true. Could anyone tell me if they have done this or heard of someone doing it. I think there is huge potenial for the block, but I'm not for sure. Any info you have would be great.
Thanks

I contempated using the 350N as a gas engine. The block has VERY thick cylinder walls, and a .060 overbore is not unheard of. The 455 crank idea is probably not a good idea, due to the bearing differences. Hope that helps.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

..Evidently the head bolts stretched in the Olds 350 Diesel causing a lot if not all the head gasket problems...by the time GM fixed the problem the public had had enough so it became history...But....The bottom end is almost bullet proof and has a lot of potential....I am in the midst of using the parts from a 403 Olds engine to build a gas 350 out of the diesel...Makes a great truck engine.....or whatever......The cylinders have to be inline.!!!

It's only got 2 bolt mains and the bore is smaller than a standerd 350.

2 bolt mains........How in the world did we ever survive with only two bolt mains all these years.??...Theres a 4 bolt main 350 in one of my Chev work trucks..A good thing I got rid of that POS 2 bolt main engine that only lasted 200,000 miles....The cylinders have to be inline.!!!

Remind me to have a "Chat "with inline sometime. unless you plan to run bogusly high compression or Rs, you soulg do fine with a 2 bolt.Right engine, Wrong Wheels
