Kudos to my wife!
After firing 3 architects, my wife designed the place, was the general contractor, she purchased all the material including the elevator! She got the bids, negotiated contracts and expedited the entire project.
We did a LOT of the work ourselves: We cleaned and gutted the building before the old roof came off. We did the electric, replastering, finish carpentry, staining & varnishing, glass block and both the floor and bathroom tile. She did the interior design and the landscaping.
Yes... it was a lot of work but we saved a TON of $$$.
Because of our efforts, this project cost us less than had we bought a lot and built a house!
When asked: "What was the hardest part of this project?"
My wife replies: "Stay'n married!!!"
NOTE: I can be a real jerk because I'm anal and expect nothing but perfection. The contractors hated me... so she also was the buffer so they wouldn't walk off the job. ( they had a name for me that I can't print here)
"We" = Myself, my wife, our 2 sons, my father-in-law, brother-in-law and brother.
WHEW...it was a LOT of work... we are still trying to regain our sanity.

4 post lifts`
I've been shopping for a 4-post lift recently and I gotta tell ya, this is worse than shopping for a used car! Too many sales reps for various companies just want to bad-mouth other brands. Ultimately, I get disgusted and discouraged, not knowing who to believe, and do what I should have done in the beginning, ask you guys. Does anyone have experience with Bend Pak? I've been thinking about the 9K models. Have had at least two competitors tell me Bend Pak is not "made in the U.S.A." , but manufactured in China, shipped here and "assembled" in the U.S. The Bend Pak rep I've talked to assures me they are in fact, completely made in the U.S.. I called Bend Pak direct, and the person I spoke with there said "yes, they are made right here at our plant in California.". Regardless- any of you have opinions on this? BTW, I do have a 220V receptacle just for a lift. I just don't want to spend 3K+ for a "hobby" lift if it's not necessary. YES!, safety is my #1 concern. One dealer in Texas who seems pretty honest, and helpful, and who sells imports, Garage Master, which he says is made in the U.S., and Bend Pak has advised me that, for my home/light duty use, I'd be fine with a 7K rated import. How about Direct Lift? Boy am I confused! Thanks folks

I bought the 7000 lb lift with plate on floor. Bought it on line 6 years ago. Works great and I am completly satisfied with it. Mine was made in america, but that was 6 years ago. i paid 2200 there was free shipping then.

New workbench -56 Plymouth ?
bought this ( Plymouth dash, complete) last summer at the Monroe swap meet,.
I was planning on hanging it from the wall or ceiling, but thought an addition for my workbench would be wise.
I hooked up a fluoresent light behind it, and the overhead light is adjustable up & down, just like the eyesight .
but heck, I love light , period

I made my 4 bulb adjustable, both to ease replacement & ease of brightness. 41

I did a remodel on my basement and I wished that I had your talent. My basement looks OK, but not that nice.

I'm afraid to post pix of my garage..........between a Southbend lathe, Mill, 2 drill presses, 2 welders, plasma cutting cart, a set of rollers, a planishing hammer & stand, a large snap-on box, 2 motorcycle lifts & a frig I find SPACE to be a premium.
On occasion I'm forced into the driveway to complete stuff.......
I need a professional to lay out my garage space for me.
My three car garage is no match for me & my habit.

I am getting quotes on materials for a 30'X40' garage in the hill country of central Texas. Should begin construction in 5 or 6 months. I have a bunch of ideas of how best set it all up but can't make up my mind (8' or 10' ceilings etc.). I can't wait to move my project in and have more space to work.

If you go with 10' ceilings I'd use sissor truss at the back end so you'd have height for a hoist some time in the future.Charlie
