Garage Security
Anyone tried a good wireless home secutity system (DIY) for your garage. Looking into a monitor and a couple of motion detectors. I know, I know...get a dog or guns. I have a French Bulldog who pees when strangers come in, so I would know if someone had been in, once I got around to stepping in the puddle. I have lots of guns, but want a "heads up" when a "target of opportunity" is in the garage.

Check out the following two web sites:

Their 4 camera DVR systems are going pretty cheap these days. For the $500 or so , you can have piece of mind...I have two separate systems installed at my shop. One for indoors, one for outdoors, one of them to the regular security system the other a freestanding unit just so I do not have to walk all 2 acres and 10,000sq/ft constantly during the course of my work day.

Not DYI but my house is alarmed & attached garage is also alarmed. Doors all have contacts & I have 2 motion detectors in the garage.
My storage unit is also alarmed.
If it goes off, police are here within 5 minutes.

Couple motion sensors inside that trigger some really bright lights, then a video camera complete with overly bright "on" light....Keeps the honest people honest, anyway.... Oh yeah, good friends with the Chief of Police....the cop shop is down the alley south two blocks, next door to the North of me is a Convenience store..... At least a half dozen times a day theres a squad car cruizin' down the alley from the cop shop to the C-Store....maybe the 1st three rules of real estate helps, too....Location, location, location!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I have both a video monitoring/recording on the outside of my house/garage and a separate security system with alarms and keypads for this inside of the house/garage. I did all of the work myself.
A lot of the video monitoring stuff does come with motion detection but it doesn't set off alarms, it just puts the system in record mode. That is why I have both. I wanted a system to capture the images of the people (which allows me to prosecute). I also wanted an alarm system to alert us to people. Wireless is the way to go for both systems on an existing house.
For a one-stop-shop on security systems for the home installer, check out:

They have both video and other security systems.

I don't have the motion detectors but I have 8 Camera's along with a 8 foot fence and two boxers. I think I would shoot them before I let one of my dogs bit them, because then the cops would want to take the dogs for a month and quarantine them.
Beside I wouldn't want my Beautiful Boxers to catching anything.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
