    Hurst Lightning Rod Shifter

I'm guessing scoring this shifter off Craigslist would be a good thing? Some young guy had it at his yard sale. I'd never seen it before, but figured something this wicked looking had to be rare. From surfing and reading, it's a auto shifter, how do I figure out what years they came from? Has anybody used one on another tranny?

You did very well. I've seen them go for stupid money on Ebay, and most times they are missing knobs or other stuff. Good score. I only saw one in person, in a Cobra kit car, and it was the topic of conversation at that show.

I'm thinking of running it in my new project, a 46 Dodge truck. I'm waiting to see if anybody has hooked it up to different tranny....

Didn't these come "factory" in the Hurst 442's in the early 80's?

I seem to remember one in a buddies Hurst Olds.

I remember those in the Hurst/Olds cars; how does that contraption work?

Hurst no longer make these - but they are a bit of nostalgia!

Yea its a good thing, and they work. If for nothing else its a great conversation piece! I adapted one to a 700r4 just so I could, along with a gear venders over/under drive say I got an 8 speed automatic. I still have some work to do on the console but it fits.

The four speed units were particular to the 1983 and 1984 Hurst/Olds, but Hurst did make some additional four and three speed units for anyone interested in retrofitting their shifters.
