I don't think he will be on for a while Whiplash. He's all tuckered out from all the celebrating he did at his YOUNGER Sisters birthday party.
(Man, am I asking for it or what!)

Trouble maker,Don..I gotta agree with Whiplash on this one,,the ragging between you guys in particular, makes it enjoyable to be here..May be a good thing you are so far apart[in distance]..Micah 6:8
If we aren't supposed to have midnight snacks,,,WHY is there a light in the refrigerator???

I guess Bob is busy looking through his private picture collection, just trying to find that perfect "cutie" to post on here.
In the meantime, I have gotten a little more done on my 27. I got the grille insert painted gloss black and the parts I ordered from OTC for my Guide headlights came in, so I got those put together too. My headlights were in really nice shape but I had robbed the chrome trim rings off of them to use on my 23 when I built it. So it was time to replace those with new ones. OTC makes every part for these old Guide lights and their quality is first rate. I'd recommend them to anyone.
So the grille shell and headlights are now mounted, and I also got the windshield back from the glass shop. He did an ok job and was able to cut my existing glass, so the Lucky Lady decal stayed intact. I like the windshield much better cut straight across the top instead of curved, like I had it.
Here are some pictures from tonight, just a few things to do and I can put the body on.

Steve, I was wondering what you were doing up at 4:30 am, then I realized you are in England. We just got in from the shop, burned a little midnight oil tonight. Have to do that because of the heat during the day. It was 96 in the shop when we got there this afternoon.

Looking very cool there Don. I was out in New York a few weeks ago and forgot what heat and humidity feel like. I can't imagine turning a wrench in a unairconditioned shop when it's hot and humid at the same time. I guess you could always go for a swim being so close to the ocean. When I lived on big Pine Key, I used to start sweating the minute I dried off from a shower! But the benes of living on the water made it worth it!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Thanks Steve. Yep, the heat has been brutal this year. Lately it's gotten into the Summer pattern of raining almost every afternoon, and sometimes that brings some relief but sometimes it just turns it into a sauna. The first thing we do when we get to the shop is turn on the ac in the office so that we can go in there for a cold drink and a little break every so often. It's just unbearable in the shop, and you keep sweating into whatever you are working on. I guess the term blood, sweat, and tears really does fit working on a car in the Summertime.
Like I mentioned, we have become nighttime car builders. The other night I went there at midnight and it was finally bearable enough to get some stuff done. Can't wait for late fall to come.

Heck guys all this talk about summer heat and sweeting is just making me envious as our weather has turned very wet, winding and cold, but it is winter down here.
Yes that screen does look better straight across Don, and that chopped '32 grille is just awesome. Now question time and this may cause a smile on your face, but don't you fellas have modern radial tyres over there yet or is NZ just ahead of you fellas in our tyres???I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I think I vaguely remember hearing something about radial tires, but I personally have never seen a set Whiplash. I've always been a bias ply kind of guy, but I am definitely going to put a set of Diamond Backs on my 46 when I do it. I had a long talk with a vendor at Turkey Run last year and looked over some of the ones he had there on display. I'm very impressed, they look very close to bias plies but I bet they ride and handle better, especially on a heavier car like the 46. I admit bias plies aren't perfect, but they work well for me and I do like the old timey look of them better than most radials, especially on a fenderless car..............but that is just me.
Didn't get a whole lot done today, had to refinish a chest for my bedroom, so that took up most of the day. But my license plate light and frame came in from Bob Drake, it is a knock off of the old Hollywood light that are getting hard to find. I have an original on my 23 that I scored on Ebay and one more I am saving for the 29 RPU when I do that one, but this repop is really very nice, and it has no shelf rash like most of the old ones you find.
I was proud of myself, I actually drilled the two mounting holes in exactly the right place for a change. Usually I have a bunch of holes around the one that finally fits, or else some holes that I oblonged to get them to work. Maybe I'm getting better or just lucky this time.

Don i do like those license plate lights, don't think i've seen them here ?
I'm with you on the tyres, we call them crossplys here. Radials are fine on a fendered car but nothing beat a cool looking crossply on a fenderless car (in my opinion)
I like the old tyres as they break away slowly unlike radials that just go.

Oh no Don,
My image of your building skills has just been dashed. I thought I was the only one who needed to drill 5 holes to get 1 good one and yesterday I had to oblong 3 holes for new body mounting nuts. Seriously, all looks good.

I prefer to think of all those extra holes as lightning holes Jack. I figure I save .0005 ounce every time I misjudge where something goes. As my eyes get worse over the years my cars tend to weigh less and less.
Wow Steve, 90 in England, that's unusually warm, isn't it? With Global Warming Sue won't have to escape to Florida now to get her tan. I was surprised too to see Bob Drake repopping those lights. Very nice quality and stainless steel too.
Don
And a Happy Birthday Wish for Mr. Spears. Hope you can have a great one. :)
