Thanks Steve. I might be able to give you and Sue a ride in it when you visit in the fall. I actually see the finish line in sight.

This weekend we got all the little pinholes filled with spot putty, and finally got to shoot a few coats of high build primer on it. Dan was a great help, gave up lots of time from working on his own car to help me sand and spray......thanks Dan.

Now that the primer is on I found a couple more little spots that need a dab of spot putty, so after the primer sets up a day or so I'll fill those then begin blocking it again. That will hopefully be the final priming before top paint. Color is still up in the air, but I have a few ideas now that I can see the body getting a little straighter. Won't really know until I go into the paint store and lay down some money though.

Here is the body after last nights primer went on.

IT'S PURPLE, BOB!!!!!!!! Strange you should mention it. I actually saw a cool purple-ish color the other day and thought that might be a good one to use. It was more like black-purple, so maybe that one will photograph un-pink-like.

Don that body is looking toooo smooth not to have a shiny coat on it and I believe that with all the other paint jobs you have accomplished, I 'm sure it will come out brilliant. Thanks also for putting those photos of Steve and Sue's cars up for us to admire, I am now made up my mind on the colour of my bucket and if there is any flake left in the world for me to purchase, I going the heavy flake way...

Thanks Whiplash and Steve. Whiplash, forget about finding any metalflake for a while, it's all been shipped to England and they're trying to catch up on production.

Steve, I really think you might be able to actually get a ride in Dans too when you two come over. He is REAL close. We thought he was ready for primer about a month ago but he found some areas that he didn't like the alignment on and has been piecutting and refitting those. I have to admit he was right, it lines up much better now. But he is running out of things to nitpick so he might be forced to prime it before it starts rusting away on him.

Here are a couple of before and after pictures. The first picture is where he pie cut right above the bottom rear edge to drop it down to line up better, and the second one is after welding and grinding it smooth.

Today I decided enough was enough. Time to figure out what color the 27 is going to be, so I went to the paint store and poured through all their paint charts, even the Fleet Color chart, and finally decided I am going with SEM Hot Rod Black. It is a satin black that I have seen on other cars and liked, so I bought the two kits they have in stock to get me started and plan to shoot it tomorrow night or Saturday.

I had considered every color out there.........blues, reds, etc. and gloss versus satin, and the main reasons I went with this is that I am tired of messing around with this car. It's sitting there as a running chassis and the only things holding it back are the paint and interior. My Son Don and I share a common trait, we know when "good enough is good enough." Neither of us mind the little nicks or flaws that some people fret over, we want to use and abuse our rods and know that once they hit the street they will be getting road rash in a short period of time anyway.

That feels like a load lifted from my back now that I know what color it will be and I can get on with my life. Besides, I don't know if any one color or sheen is perfect on any car anyway. We usually end up liking the choice we made and living with it.

I'll post some pictures of it after the weekend. Here is a picture of a 27 in satin that I like a lot.

I agree with you Don,choosing the colour is damn difficult more than the whole build at times and especially when keeping to a theme. I have always wanted my paint to be House of Color Tangerine and after you posted the photos of Steves' roadster,I have decided that is the colour but with the heavy flake as I have always had the early '60's theme T Bucket in mind and wasn't too sure how the flake would look as I haven't seen any cars down here with a complete flake job. I like your choice and that does really look good on the '27. Good luck with the painting.

I had to add that since Bob and Kurt haven't chimmed in! Seriously though the satin colors give it that old time look, sort of raw and tough! Are you thinking of red rims too?

Thanks guys. No, the rims are already powdercoated black, so that will stay. I think with enough chrome and polished aluminum it will have enough contrast. I'm thinking white grille insert and black and white interior too.

To be honest, I just hate bodywork and when I spent 8 more hours, sanding in 96 degree heat and sweating into the work early this week, I decided I don't want to take any more time to get this body good enough for shiny. That, and I am not a pro painter, so my chances of getting a shiny job really nice are slim to none.

I really see why guys like Hotrodpaint and others get so much money for a good paint job. Just in supplies alone I have a bit of money, not counting the time it takes to do it correctly. My hat is off to those guys who do it day in day out.

Hey Stevie, look at the printing on the top of the SEM box...........he just can't stay away from it!!!
