Steve, I tell you, I REALLY hate body work and painting. There is nothing fun about it. I think that is the major reason I don't build custom cars like 50 Fords and stuff like that. Too much surface area to work on.

Hey Don,come on, you know that those 50's customs are just too modern for you and your son's. You will have to start another build thread on the '46 but just give the title a bit of thought so that people can't give you sh*t. I like the sound of what you have planned for it but yes that can always change.

YEAH RIGHT.... Tui beer advertisement we have over here... But I know exactly what you are saying... I had decided that my bucket would be paint House of Color Tangerine and after seeing Steve's photos of his '32 I am still keen on that colour but with heavy metalflake, but today looking at pictures of custom cars in the USA, I have seen 2 to 3 colours that screamed out at me to put those doubts back into my thick skull.

Well, the picture below may seem like it is the same one I posted a few days ago, but it isn't. This is the repainted version of my 27 body. Dan and I worked yesterday and today, block sanding the paint to remove some of the imperfections, and tonight we shot it with two coats more of the same SEM Hot Rod Black. We also got the grille shell prepped and painted, as well as the two headlight buckets. One thing that helped was that Dan bought me a new, better spray gun for Fathers Day, and it did work a lot better than the old one.

It still isn't perfect ( a booth would be so nice) but it is good enough for me. All that is left is to repaint the grille insert from the red it was to gloss black, and then I am done painting. Maybe next week after the paint cures totally I can slip the body on for a looksee.

Still have to bend up the roll bar and take it to the chromer. Then the body can be put on for the final time. Looks like I might make October.

    Don,

I'm so jealous, I am so far away from primer let alone paint that I could just spit. Looking good.

Jack, thanks. I know exactly what you mean. Getting past this painting phase is such a huge hurdle when building a car. You can't do a darned thing more until you get the bodywork done and the paint sprayed. This part has been holding me back for months. It's time consuming, dirty, expensive, and frustrating work. If it hadn't been for Dan jumping in and doing the lions share of the work my car would still be unprimed and unpainted. You get to the stage where you don't really care if you have to bug bomb it, you just want some finish on it.

The bad part is, it's time to do it all over again because his body is finally ready to start priming and painting. Probably will start that next weekend.
