    I bet you thought.....

     



    ....that I've been napping and not making any progress on my 27. Ok, I HAVE been napping alot, but in between I have made some progress on it. Today the last pieces for my clutch setup came in so tonight Dan gave me a hand and we got it installed and the transmission bolted up. Once that was done we of course had to put the engine down into the frame for hopefully the final time.

    I pulled the car off the road 10 years ago to freshen it up a little and life got in the way and I even built another car, my 23, in between. But I've always liked the 27 and have a lot of great memories in it, so I'm really excited to get it back on the road again. I'm shooting for Billetproof in February, but if that doesn't happen I really want to have it running for the Billetproof Drags in October of next year.

    So, here is how it ended up tonight. Next step is to run some brake lines, put new ujoints into the driveshaft, and a few other things so I can fire it up for the first time.

    Thanks Dave. I decided to go with a Zoom setup. I figured with the extra hp it would be a good investment, and I ran one years ago in my 68 Mustang. It held up well so I thought I'd try it in this one.

    What is the chrome louvered plate on each side of the engine, below the exhaust ports?

    I didn't know you had a pink car, I thought is was purple, why would you paint a car PINK?

    I mounted this motor a little higher than normal because I drove it daily and didn't want pan clearance problems with speed bumps, angled driveways, etc. Consequently, the stock Ford motor mounts show quite a bit and are ugly as sin. So I cut a louvered stainless steel Wink mirror cover my Son Dan had laying around from his VW days and made some covers. They aren't perfect, but you don't see much of them with the headers on, and they sure are better than the black Ford mounts sitting out there.

    Ken, you've been hanging around with Bob again, haven't you?

    Funny part is, the Edelbrock air cleaner I bought comes with a K&N filter, and its's PINK!!!

    not trying to hijack, but...

    This is what I did to put a 302 with a front sump pan in a Chevelle front clip in my 56 F-100.

    Thanks guys. Yep Bob, I have to have some PURPLE on the car somewhere as an historic tribute.

    Glenn, I like 2 x 4 setups too. This ones a little overcarbed, but as Fernando said "It's better to LOOK good than to FEEL good."

    Mike: That's a nice clean way to do the mounts. In hindsight I should have done that way back when I built it, but I wanted that tube crossmember under the engine for a little more stiffening on the original Model A frame.

    That makes sense. I guess why I hadn't seen that before, most everytime I see an engine in a hot rod, its a SBC.

    Clearance is the reason for the spacers. If I had measured correctly in the first place I wouldn't have need the spacers. One day I'll redo the mounts.
