Another place to watch for parts is H.A.M.B. classified "Parts For Sale"; there seems to be a lot of Olds and other early (pre-seventy) stuff on there, most of the time.

That brings up a question....This car originaly had a 371. He replaced the engine with a 394 out of a 62 olds....when it was installed into the 60, the exhaust manifolds had the exit in the wrong place and the original 371 manifolds wouldn't fit. He had a shop refurbush the 371 heads and reinstalled them onto the 394 so he could use the 371 exhaust manifolds. The engine has NOT been fired up since the swap. Does this sound like an ok swap? So I guess when I look for an intake manifold or exhaust headers, they should be for a 371?

Pat...do you have a contact for this gu with the Olds parts?????

Pat is absolutely correct. I see manifolds being sold on Ebay all the time that say they fit 303- 371-394..........WRONG!!! You want one that fits 59-64. I'll get you the part number off of mine next time I am at the shop if you want.

I would appreciate it Don..Thanks! Problem is I have 1960 371 heads on a 1962 394!!.....I think it has the 371 intake on it...Ill have to ask him. I know he gave me the 394 heads and a extra intake (2 bbl) so I assumed the extra intake was for the 394.
He also included a spare set of valve covers that look exactly like the ones on your engine but they are painted (maybe powdercoated) Are yours aftermarket and chrome? The look alot better than the stock ones on my engine now.

My valve covers are so called Starfire covers..........I guess that is what they came on originally. They are chrome.

Here is the very best Olds info site I have ever seen: Scroll down to the bottom of the first page and click on whatever you want info on, like heads. It should tell you the differences between the various ones. I do know my 64 heads have a different exhaust bolt pattern than the 59 Olds engine I had one time.........probably what the previous owner of your car ran into. Here is that site:

    http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofblk.htm

It will keep an Olds lover like you (and me) entertained for a while.

    Don

And when you are done reading that.........

The engine hasnt been fired up since being replaced. I couldnt get the starter to turn over by the key switch. After replacing bad connectors, cleaning corrosion, and some re-wireing, I finally got it to turn over. Now I have no spark Cant work on it untill Sunday now....hopfully just bad points or timing out.....will keep yall posted.
