My new project..60 olds...
Well I sold the 51 Chevy last month and was jonesing for a new project...Found this for sale on the HAMB. Had to travel all the way to Charlotte Mich. but it was worth it! I never thought Id be into the 60's cars, but Im really gettin into these things!.....Plans are to keep it as a mild custom, with the stock 394/auto. Just gonna do a nice interior and paint it candy maroon.....gotta loose the wheels and go with thin white walls and chrome reversed and baby moons.....I'll keep yall posted...here's some pics of unloading it.....

I love those 60's Oldsmobiles. The 394 is one of my favorites and they run great.
I think the wheels and ww will look just right on that one.

You won't find headers but there are some aluminum tripower and 2 x 4 manifolds that show up on Ebay fairly often. I had a 2 X 4 setup on mine at first but then I found an Offenhauser tripower intake and that is what I have on it now. You can find new finned aluminum valve covers from various suppliers and also the finned aluminum valley cover that goes over the pushrod area.
That is about it for pretty parts. You can get internal parts like the pistons, cams, etc from people like Egge Machine, or lots of vendors sell the same parts on Ebay. Put in the keywords 394 Olds, or Olds Rocket (it isn't technically called a Rocket, but that keyword works.)
Here is a picture of mine before I painted it. Multiple carbs really finish these off IMO. Oh, my valve covers are what I have seen called "Starfire" covers. So I guess Starfires from that era had these on them.
I don't know what your plans are for paint, but man, would that car look great panel painted ala Watson.

Here is what I mean. All those flat panels are perfect for scallops.

I have a pair of the same valve covers as yours that were in the trunk. Only they're not chrome, just powdercoated a kinda drab green. But they look better then whats on it now....
As for the paint, Im not partial to scallops or panels...Im planing on painting it a high metallic maroon. Here's a pic of a finished one that is almost exactly the look Im going for....

Only had a day to work on it. It was raining and cold, plus I havent made room for it in the garge yet! Pulled the seats out and wire wheeled the floor boards. I sprayed under coat on the rear pans, but have a few small holes to patch in the front before I can finish that area.

Yep, the maroon one looks nice like that........very subtle but cool. Your floors aren't really all that bad, seen a lot worse.

cool olds i did some heads on a 394 no one in town wanted to play with them .i had to make new valve guilds up for them . if you ever look for a intake make sure its for a 394 .a guy had one at my shop some time ago and the intake was a try power but for the smaller engine i think ?? every thing looked rigth but was for a olds block with not the same deck height .looks good from mich .there is a guy in prescott mi,that has parts for them or did had a yard and had only olds cars . he was the guy that i pickup my new old stock olds windsheild for the 50 chevyLast edited by pat mccarthy; 01-17-2010 at 09:43 PM.
