Thread: Might have a paint scheme in mind for the Nova

Well gentlemen, tonight my uncle and I were talking overp aint scheme ideas for the 1970 Nova. I think we have an idea. I'm going to try, as time allows, to photoshop it up to give us a better idea.

Two tone, silver bottom and gunmetal top. How do you think that'd look? The body on this thing is really nice, only one panel needs work, and the top appears perfect, so a dark color should work out. Anybody know what paints are good quality but not super expensive? Thanks.

Sounds like a nice combination to me Red. Chrysler has a dark charcoal metallic that is gorgeous, used it on a two-toned '78 Firebird for one of my partner's kids... I'm still using PPG, mainly cuz one of the local stores here has a really knowledgeable and helpful paint guy! As for price, none of the good stuff is cheap, but the cheap stuff isn't worth using.....

You don't have any item numbers on the dark charcoal metallic, do you Dave?
I too was thinking two tone, but mine won't be top and bottom but front and back.
Gonna start practicing my air brush tecnic's on the front hood and I've been looking for some thing that would blend nice with a dark Metallic blue. I know the light blue pin stripes look good on the blue metallic, not sure if it would look good on the brown though.

In the grand scheme of things a two tone is a safe bet. Just follow the body lines.

I do concept drawings, but that would not be a good investment for your car, as a two tone would be simple to photoshop. That leaves more dollars for a little better paint.

Silver and gray is also a safe bet, as those don't have a lot of "personality", so they will just give it a clean appearance. That will keep them from having any conflict with your airbrush art.

Silvers and grays don't fade bad, so cheap basecoats would probably hold up okay long-term. If you want this paint job to last a long time, you will want to put a good clear on it. The cheaper paints will lose their gloss quicker. I've seen some die in two years if they sit in the sun a lot.

I wanna paint the whole car Metalic blue then do something like shark gills toward the
back of of the door then go in to a solid window type. And keep the solid color about 4 or 5 inches away from the top edge bottom edge and back edge of the back of the car bed.Then pin strip around the gills and the solid color in the back. Kurt

Don't know if I still have the number or not Kurt...doubt it.. It was off like a Chrysler Sebring or something if I remember right...

Go to Google...type in the year and model...click on enter....then click on images. That will give you dozens of pictures to work from.

I was at Finish Masters the other day and they had a bunch of pint cans of differant paint colors for a few bucks. They had all been opened and some was used, probably mistakes. I'll probably take some of those and experiment with some of the colors they got there. They had some blue brow black white and purpleand I think some green.
Probably just enough to pratice some stuff on my front hood.
I went to the brother in laws yesterday and he had some paints out there, so I took some metal and the paints and got all 6 of his kids.
Then I showed them how to do the water spots. HE! HE! He calls this morning the kids just showed him the piece of metal and now he wants me to paint his van.
HE! HE! I told him your kids know how, let them do it. Mean arn't I.
