I wonder if Speedways axle was that cheap Chinese junk??
As when chroming sometimes the metal will get Hydrogen Embrittlement & I would bet that is what happened to the axle.....joe

Another useful piece of knowledge lost in some of these discussions is that of ductile iron: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ductile_iron

As far as I recall, both Magnum and Super Bell use ductile iron for their axles. Both have been in business for decades, sold many thousands of axles, and have a published failure rate that is VERY low. That's not to say we consumers shouldn't be ever vigilant, but it also says that their real world performance history shouldn't be ignored either.

Well after you read so many posts about the crap they have gotten from Speedway, it make you wonder where there stuff comes from and how it's made. As far as buying that Chinese JUNK, you can buy all you want(if that's what you want to do), because until they prove to me & lots of others that they can & will make a quality part. I'd rather buy stuff from Japan or Mexico then China if no USA or other QUALITY part is available.

Also did anyone else notice how funky the inside of the kingpin area is in the 1st pic.
This tells me it was a poor casting w/lots of air bubbles in it...joe

I'm not bashing Speedway - I do purchase a fair amount of "stuff" from them and have never had a POS yet, even the Chinese crap seems better then some from Taiwan or Indonesia. I just don't use any of those pieces in a stressed or shear situation.

The chroming by a shop that doesn't have a clue on H2 embrittlement would upset me - and I would probably chalk it up to experience (like a pair of $400 each wheels that don't fit over my rear Wilwoods) and use that axle for a door stop.

Dave i see Speedway getting bashed all over but my point is that a lot of the stuff is actually bought in from other companies, for instance the halogen conversion kits are from Vintique and are real garbage but people blame Speedway.
I've had hordes of parts from Speedway over the years and never had any problems but as with any company not everything they sell is great quality, you just have to do your homework.
