ILL FITTING FENDERS '29 Ford
Just starting first mock-up and finding some very interesting challenges. Here's one I could use some help on. Any ideas, besides get new fenders. These are new repo fenders and are what there is to work with.
There's this gap see.

That's good "Duct Tape" always a wise ass. Thanks! Those are decent ideas. Guess we'll just have to see what happens when we actually start bolting things in place. I'm sure there countless other problems in store, we are just getting started on fitting the body and fenders. Still have a little chassis work to do. We just had to see what it looks like for inspatation.
Thanks again.

Yep! Finish the metal work, prime it, put it all back together just to test drive it (for a year or so) before it goes to the paint shop. So far everything has been first rate (not rat). Some (a lot) more hard work, long hours and its off to Goodguys, and then it’s a daily driver. It all sounds so easy.

Hey! Streets when was your 23 T built? Did you build it. I know, Henry built it in 1923.Last edited by Ladd; 02-22-2004 at 12:39 AM.

hey Ladd, looks like workin normal repop tin to me. None of it is exact fit bolt on and go stuff. Are you gonna weld and mold the seams, or use the bolts???Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

It looks like the running board is too wide by about a half inch. It also looks like the fender has to rotate about a half inch to the rear. (up in the part pictured) You'll probably have to elongate a lot of the mounting holes like Streets said. Use fender welt and bolt it to the body then the apron and the running board last. You might have to loosen or remove the bolts from the top of the apron till after it's bolted to the fender.
It's typical trial fit work. If nothing else works then you have to cut the fender and weld in a filler piece. It doesn't look that serious in the pictures though.

The problem you have is not a big deal. As Dave Severson pointed out, this is just normal fit-up work. Slot some holes, rotate fender a bit (if you have to) use large flatwashers, and tighten everything a bit at a time so as not to severely "tweak" anything. The splash apron will come out to meet the fender. Some people assemble the entire front and rear fender, splash apron and running board as a unit, then with help of a friend carry it over to the frame and bolt it to the frame and running board supports and body loosly and pull it into final position with the mounting bolts a bit at a time.Old guy hot rodder
Thank you Roger. .
