The back fenders of that Aceca coupe remind me of a 51 Henry J.

Hi Uncle Bob,thanks for the story and photos. Is your neighbour Tony Haliday by any chance?? I knew some Haliday brothers from here in Auckland that built, raced and maintained race cars of the same as that type. Another person that I had the good fortune to meet before he passed and was so knowlegdable was John Olsen who use to work for Carrol Shelby building Cobra's. He was the most amazing bodyman creating aluminium bodied Cobra's
which when he returned home to NZ he continued to do with permission and exported genuine ali bodies to the USA. One of his last projects was a Coupe just like the one in the photo I believe. I saw the bucks he was making to form the body panels on on my last visit and some of the front panels he had already formed. I am also aquainted to Charlie Wallace whose brother lives and works in the US somewhere who is a engine buider of some fame I believe.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

No whip, his last name is Garmey. That's him in the green Tshirt in the background of the Devin. He's acquainted with another Cobra industry Kiwi who's been here a long time, Ron Butler who used to work for Shelby and has been in the Cobra replica business for decades.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Great pics Bob, Thank you for sharing!
Any companies buiding that cobra body that you know of? Would make a great driver being enclosed.

The closest I've seen in the Cobra replica world was a sloping, detachable hardtop that was available years ago. I think it was Midwest Cobra, or Shell Valley, but not sure. It did nothing for the looks of the car so didn't sell very many I'd guess.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Bob,
I wonder how the Ardun heads got knocked off in South America for Simca? Are there was no patent coverage on them there.

I don't know about that Ken, you've got more patents to your name than anyone else I know................at least since Tom Edison died.
Those Simca heads were late '60s stuff, so wouldn't the patent have expired by now. If there's any ownership left it would be in Chrysler....ooops, scratch that, Fiat's name (or would that be the UAW?). I know that Simca bought Ford's design/tooling for the V8 60, but did they design their own heads using Ardun as a model but with enough tweaks to avoid patent infringement? Beats me!Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
