Help me value my car
I know there will be variation across different regions, but help me place a value or just a range on my car. I want to get it insured so I can work on the registration process over the winter and have everything ready to go in the spring. It seems most insurance companies will go with what the customer says and negociate on that if needed. Wheels will come over the winter so for now these are it. Mechanically its just about all there...just no interior except seats. What do you think? I won't be insulted Also I was thinking I would need to be insured as a car under construction because it won't be "done", but I'm not so sure because I think that's really just for transporting the car. Since it is drivable I would just need to send in updates now and then to raise coverage, correct?

On your insurance, talk to your regular insurance agent and ask him if he can get his underwriters to write you a policy for comprehensive and collission only. Since it cannot be driven liability is no a risk and need not be insured. If you trailer it the liability coverage of the towing vehicle covers liability for the load, too. Once you get your VIN and registration in place you can either add liability, or shift to one of the collector car companies if you fit their mold and accept their restrictions, which vary widely between companies.Roger

thanks bigdude...pretty much in line with what i figured.
rspears- The days of trailering are about over. It's drivable now so I guess technically not "under construction" according to an insurance company. So I am figuring I would insure it with a collector car company now and just update them when we put the wheels on, interior, paint, etc.'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Here in KS you're well advised to trailer to the VIN inspection as they have been known on many occasions to impound a vehicle until they are happy with the title/numbers/process if it is driven into the station.
On insurance, be sure that you understand any restrictions the collector car company's have, for example Haggerty says you "..shouldn't use the car for errands, to go to work/school, etc..." which may mean that you may lose coverage if you shop on the way home, and per the policy you really cannot drive it to work on a nice day, ever. Not saying they are bad, just saying understand the policy, and know what you buy. I found that the reason for collector company's low rates is that they limit their risks in many ways, and it varies a lot from company to company. Grundy and CHROME seem to be among the better ones, restriction wise.Roger

As I understand it in Virginia the inspector comes to me to place the VIN. Thanks for the information on the companies though I have been doing some research on that. I will probably drive the car less than I think, but the fewer restrictions the better provided the rates are reasonable.
Any other thoughts on the value? Otherwise I'll probably shoot for $20k'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
