New truck
I was looking for just a cheap 4x4 somthing or other just to make the winter.. but this popped up for sale down the road and I knew it was worth way more than it's list price.. actually when I first drove by I thought it said $8,000 and it was seemingly nice enough to be $8k.. but drove by again and looked good at the sign and saw $800.. I got out and looked.. said it needs a ring and pinion.. 1995 Chevy Cheveynne extended cab 4x4 5spd, 140k miles.. previous owner said 305 V8, but I'v been told all ex cabs were 350's. I just havn't checked the emissions tag yet, as it's not home yet.. ither way, 305 or 350 doesn't matter to me.. it was $800 so I can't complain... going to go down to the junkyard and pull a rear with the right axle code., they cost $50 there.. he said he was going around a tight turn last week when he heard snap crackle and pop and he had to put it in 4x4 to limp it home ( ironically, it happened less than 500' from his house ).. I actually suspect it's a gov lock unit that self destructed... he wants a new truck w/ an automatic anyway.. but I like 5 gears, and I know these trucks are super hard to find in a 5spd reg cab.. I don't think I'v ever seen an ex cab 5spd

At that price you could drop a crate engine in and still be ahead.Ken Thomas

no. but he did tell me he did not expect it to sell that quick.. I think he knew it was worth more than he was asking, just not by how much.. these trucks in this condition in my area sell for $5k or so, at a dealer.. $3,500 or so private party. figuring in $1,500 for repairs ( at a shop ), he could have still asked $2k and sold it, tho it would have sold slower..
but I'v wanted a tow capable vehicle for a long time.. my '98 Ranger was but it only had about 20k miles left in it b4 it would need somthing major.. so the wreck was actually a good thing in a way.. this is rated for 6.2k lbs ( it's a 5spd ). but has an electric trailer brake controller, and his main use was towing his 5k lbs race car trailer ( open deck ).. so it will haul a lighter weight open deck car trailer, with a 2.5klbs hotrod on it easilly I would think.Last edited by Matt167; 11-03-2010 at 04:16 PM.
