Don and his two Sons are off to the Turkey Run held in Florida. Don was taking his new/old baby, Don Jr was taking his awesome Bucket (Mr Blue) and Dan was hopefully trailing his brand new RPU behind the hired mobile camper as they were all a bit concerned about the high number of rodz going missing from Motel/Hotel car parks. I hope the weather is/was kind to them and they have an enjoyable time especially Dan with his baby.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I think Dan's car is missing out this year while getting the seats, carpet and top done, but other than that I believe you are correct Whip. I am looking forward to some pictures when they return!'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

I found Don's car and Don Jr' car but never found Don...........LOL another year missed.
While waiting by Don's car ( 3 hours not 15 minutes), the comment's from passerbys was how clean and simple the car looked. They liked the black and white contrast. Matbe next year Don will stay near his Car.

Brad, I had NO idea you were waiting there until Bill (Gastrick) told me on Saturday night that he saw you there. I am so sorry. We always park our cars and immediately hit the swap area, and stay there all day. I feel bad, this is about the 3rd or 4th time I've missed you. I do thank you though for baby sitting my car for me.
My Sons and I have talked it over and are going to stop taking our cars inside the track altogether. It is such a hassle getting in there and then all you do is park your car and then drive it out at the end of the day. We enjoy the nightime cruising more, so we are going to take a daily driver to the track, go in as spectators, and then use our cars at night.
It also forces you to get up so early to get in line to get into the track. If we go as spectators we can go later in the AM, and also have a larger car to haul our goodies out in. I have had to pass on lots of stuff I would have bought because a T bucket or T has no room to put it once you do buy it.
Again Brad, I am so sorry we missed you.

After the engine crapped out on the way home I would have gladly taken three dollars for it. I am going to push it into a corner until I feel like ever looking at it again, then I'll try to figure out what happened.

Well that sucks Don.
Was there any loud noise before it stoped or it just stoped with no warning?
In any case I hope you get it figured out

Kurt, this engine has never been quiet.........it has been ticking since I first fired it up. I have torn it down twice and found nothing so I just assumed it was that some strokers have piston slap (that is what Scat told me). It sounded like loose valvetrain, but I checked and rechecked and it is adjusted right on.
All weekend I had the headers uncorked, so I couldn't hear any ticking. But for the ride home on Sunday I capped them up and it was ticking as usual. We started down the road, me following Don and Dan in the motorhome, and after a few miles I started hearing a pattern to the ticking, sounded like something hitting the tin shield that covers the flywheel. It got louder and louder and I signalled them to pull over. Before I shut it down it was very loud. When I started it to put it on the trailer (we removed Don's T and put mine on the same trailer) it cranked very slow, and that was unusual. The engine used no oil at all during the 250 mile drive, or around town.
Oil pressure and temp were fine, as was power. So I don't think it is rotating assembly problems. I am leaning more toward valvetrain......roller rockers, push rods, lifters, etc. Because this engine tucks so tightly under the cowl, I have to pull the engine to get the valve covers off. Not a big deal, I have done that before in about an hour. But right now I don't even want to look at the car, I need to get away from rodding for a bit. Fishing is looking better and better all the time.
I think I am going to build an engine test stand and run it there before I go to the trouble of putting it back in the car.

It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

And to add salt to your open weeping wound, You sold a T Bucket with the best little small block CHEV in it.See,I was right, the boat should of been sold first so that you still had the '23 to drive. So sad to hear your news Don but I hope you and your lads had and excellent weekend.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.
