Then you must have missed the 1st year, 1961. Sunday night there was a near riot at the spot in the road called Clermont. Seems as though the folks occupying the camping grounds ran out of beer and didn't realize that Indiana is dry on Sundays, or at that time it was, I don't know about today. Anyway they showed their displeasure by hassling every car that came through the intersection and at that time there was a drive in movie right across the road from IRP. My buddies and I made it out just as the cops were arriving. From what I understand a couple of Sheriffs offices, the Indianapolis city police and the Indiana state highway patrol were in attendance with a couple of buses to haul off the "rioters". It was a fun night to say the least.
