Thumbs up tribute build to my deceased son, his 1948 dodge truck

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ln 1995 l started the truck for me. my son. 9 yrs old at the time "helped" me on it. one day he said that the truck was his and l said OK. l planned to give it to him on his 16th birthday and teach him to drive in it.

2 weeks before his 16th birthday he drowned.

l was devastated and put the truck in storage, could not bring myself to work on it without him around to help.

abour a year ago my friends said either sell it or finish it, don't let set and just go to hell, you are disrespecting the memory of your'e son.

well, we dragged out of storage on june 10, 2010 and started the build.

we did a one year thrash and got it running and driving.

we finished about 4 weeks ago and l am so glad they talked me into getting it running.

l am having a good time driving it and it brings back some great memories of me and Jimmy working on this truck.

pics of what it looked like a year ago when we started.

Tough read - I can not imagine what it must have been to loose a son. I am impressed that you're "back at it" and I know you boy would be proud of your efforts! Please know that you have my utmost respect - this will be a real tribute and it will always be a "father-son" project! Keep the pictures coming.

    Regards,
    Glenn

Neat old pilot house. I know that it’s probably bitter sweet under the circumstances. I’m sure you’re son was/is watching over you and the project and smiling.
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Skull, tough thread to read. I was blessed with 2 sons and a daughter and the memories of them growing up and the things we did toether.

Cherish the memories you had with your son and honor those memories buy finishing the build as I know you both had planned.

    Skull,
Can't say it any better than it's already been said. Sorry to read the story, but it's a lot better to be driving the truck as a tribute, and to trigger memories of good times past. Thanks for posting.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

I too am happy to see you finishing it in his memory. I'm sure you remember the colors he'd suggested and ideas he had for it, I hope you're able to complete it the way he had hoped it would be and that you don't get rid of any work he did on it. keep up the good work.
