great lakes dragaway
Hi to all, long time no talk. I hope everyone here is doing well. I had the fortunate grace of sitting with a nitro funny car team for the weekend. This was at Union Grove WI. This track has a ton of history from the past, everyone who was anybody back in the day ran this track. I thought maybe some would enjoy these pictures and decided to share some shots I took.

I ran a 57 Chevy in ES/2 in 1965/1966 at Great Lakes. Pretty much spent my weekends there with my Dad ( RIP )in the mid 50s and early 60s. Grew up in the Racine, Union Grove, Sturtevant area. Great times watching Grumpy and Dick Landy, Dyno Don, all the big names made it to " The Grove ". My best time with the 57 was 13:40 at 104 MPH, never could bust into the 12s. I remember one weekend we decided to tow the car down there and had to take the front bumper off to hook up our home made tow bar, left the bumper at home and when we got there they stuck us in FX ( Factory Experimental ). I think Broadway Bob was out to teach us a lesson that day. Those FX cars were running in the 10s back then if I remember right, all good though. We really had a good time at the Saturday night "Grudge" races. Great pics, thanks for sharing and taking me back to my youth.Last edited by Oldschool66; 08-27-2011 at 09:18 AM.
Tomorrow is promised to no one.
Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
