Public Service Announcement: Get your prostate checked.
On behalf of my father, Mike Mills, I would like to make a plea to the group that you get your prostate checked as regularly as suggested.
My dad is in the last stage of his life due to prostate cancer and I'm not certain why it only came to me in the last couple of days to post something after a 6 year battle with the disease, but I want to share this simple message with the group. This is in the hopes that my dad, before and after he leaves this world, may facilitate saving or otherwise prolonging others’ lives. My dad went in for other routine health issues about 6 years ago and found out that he had prostate cancer. After removing the prostate it was clear that the cancer had reached beyond the outer walls of the prostate and had spread. They gave him 2-3 years at the time. While we feel blessed that we got 6 years more from my father, he is far too young (64), and the time has flown by very quickly.
In the end, the situation is not pretty, and one which we all should work to avoid. On behalf of my father, don’t let fear of cancer or probing fingers keep you from finding these problems early enough to deal with them so that you may live a long and happy life.
For those who are suffering with this disease, keep up the good fight. My dad has remained very positive throughout and has been an inspiration to me and our family.Brent Mills

Sorry to hear about your Father, Brent. If it's caught early, prostate cancer can be dealt with. A routine prostate exam is the best way to catch it early before it becomes serious.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Sorry your Dad has to go through this, Brent. The exam has now become non-invasive, at least with my doc, part of the normal blood testing in the annual physical for PSAT.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

My doctor claimed that the finger in the forbidden zone was much more accurate than the blood tests....finger test would catch a problem considerably earlier BUT it did take a trained finger. I told him that he was the strongest man in the world...he could lift this fat boy off the ground with one finger.... IF it has the potential to save your life, why not have the test done?

Life sometimes does not seem fair! While getting ready for retirement my dad went in for a physical which resulted in finding prostate cancer. He put off retirement while going thru radiation and within a couple years was able to retire at 62. Cancer popped back up when he was 71 and this did not go well. It was esophagus cancer this time. Checkups are no guarantee but they are our best chance to catch something early and survive. Something I found as I got older. I'm not as shy (or don't care) as I was when a young man. My last two GP's have been female! Wohoo!!

Both my parents had cancer during their lifetimes, so I make sure I get my yearly physical. Fortunately, they caught their cancers early and were successfully treated. I'm very sorry about you father, Brent.

Thanks for all of the well wishes, everyone. I told my dad about the post I made and your responses this evening. I told him that he may help to save someone's life at some point. While heavily drugged, he smiled and was happy that we discussed it here.Brent Mills

Brent,,only just seen this..I lost a good friend to prostate cancer a few years back,,he was only 53..He had a groin pain, which he thought was a pulled muscle,,and left it too late.By the time he went to the doctor and found the problem,it was too late, and he battled it for about three years.I am overdue for a check up,so I think this might spur me on to get it sorted..Very sorry to hear of your father battling this,,our prayers go out to him and the rest of your family..Micah 6:8
If we aren't supposed to have midnight snacks,,,WHY is there a light in the refrigerator???
