Stragglers Picnic..Cambridge,NZ..
We went north on Saturday morning to see my mother. An annual event happens an hours drive away,,so it ties in well for visits.. ,in fact,if mum was as active as she used to be,she probably would have wanted to come to..
The Stragglers Picnic has been happening for several years now,and this year, close to 1000 cars turned uo for the day,or part thereof..Heres a link..

I think we need to plan a trip to NZ one day before we're too old & feeble! A truly great bunch of cars, with lots of variety. Thanks for posting the links.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Guys,,that is one of the nicest spots for a car show/display,that we have been to in ages..Its no surprise that the reason they get several hundred cars,is,I would think, the fact that its only a couple of hours from Auckland, very central location, and the shade,,in fact, the whole feeling in the domain is relaxing..And it was a hot day too..And as you can see,it brings the whole spectrum of classics, rods, kustoms,,etc, out for the day..
Roger(Spears),,what you guys need to do is find an enterprising dude to organise a rodding tour,(we have several guys doing this here, for trips to USA)cos you guys could spend four weeks here and cover quite a bit of territory..
Coyote, thanks for the compliment,,we like it,,its a kool little country..
35fordcoupe,,a very large percentage of the later model cars you can see here, are in fact imports, that have started life in America..And we are only now beginning to have the privelige of importing new/near new cars,,but there are a few strings attached..
Roger(blowby),you need to come home in November for a look,,This has been going for a few years now,,and not getting any smaller..Every year,another 100 cars turn up..Estimated 850-900 this year..Ohh,and did I mention that it is a CHARITY event??Usually gold coin entry$1,$2 coin,,last year,about $3000 donated to charity..Micah 6:8

Robin,
It is indeed a beautiful country, what little of it I have seen. Went to Christchurch back in the '80's when I worked for Unisys (Burroughs Corporation). Only saw some of the south island, and it was gorgeous ........ absolutely stunning

Charlie,,funny thing is,,the LHD American imports must nearly outnumber the NZ new American cars..With the 50s/60s/70s stuff,at least..We got very little later model stuff, until the import restrictions were eased, then the flood gates opened..Parts??yup,,we have it all,,we might have done you a favor, cos I bet a lot of cars were boxed up and shipped down here, instead of being junked..What do ya need, fellas??
John...the South Island is like a different country to the North Island..We have some awesome scenery in both islands,,but they have better earthquakes than us... oops,,did I say that?? They are also very strong rodding wise down there, and have a lot of American cars that came into the south with the American servicemen who were at the Operation Deep Freeze base in Christchurch..They found they could bring their cars down here, and usually there were newowners waiting for them to sell at the end of their service down here..Micah 6:8

Thanks for sharing the pics Robin. Looked like a great turnout, with some really nice Rods and Bikes, liked the custom trailers too. Didn't see one shrimp on the barby though!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
