Do any of you guys spray acid on the rust after you sand blast it and such to help stop it dead in it's tracks? That's what I do. My old boss uses this method in his bod shop.Ryan

Yeah, Ryan, I've heard a variety of old school methods of treating rust but something we have to be careful of now-a-days is some of the new paint systems won't stick to some of those old school remedies, so it's a good idea to do a lot of research and ask the paint guys before hand. I know the guy who owns SPI (Southern Polyurethanes) is not a fan of any product coming between the metal & his product."It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells

I have seen the muaratic acid (sp) used but it needs washed of quick with soap and water . I would rather keep the metal dry and use a better top coat for it . Any time you get the metal wet you have induced it a reason to rust .

I got in a little garage time today but don't have that much to show for it.
I'm fitting the "new" deck lid and trying to reshape the old tailpan to fit it better.

The gap on the left is slightly larger than the right and the right would even be tighter if I didn't have that stick in there. Hopefully, since I cut out the tailpan I can tweak the sides to fit the lid a little better.
Whoever installed this tailpan back in the day left it long on the sides and just tucked it in under the quarter panels, welded it, then filled the gap up with lead. I cut it down the seam they made which left a double thickness of metal on the sides.

I didn't take any pics of it but I spent some time trying to reshape the tailpan to better fit the bottom edge of the lid before I start smoothing out the dents. At different points during the day I was tempted to go inside and order a new panel but then I kept asking myself who has $600 for that?? Not me! I can't give up that easily! I have an aquaintence with a bunch of metal shaping tools & experience. I'm going to get him to take a look at it to decide my next move.....

This is my inspiration! I want it to look close to this when I'm done!
Yes, I have me work cut out for me....

Those pics show how far you've brought the project along, you're definately making progress and getting a "second opinion" should be a good move.

Your example pic makes me cry at the quality of work done on it . Talked to the shop and am going to meet him next week . Talk over what I can afford to have do to correct the body and some other little things .
As Mike says you have come along way on the body . It's taking form and looking good .

Randy - really starting to come together now. Almost looks ready for paint now. If you were a bit closer you could use my Porta Power for final panel adjustment (I assume it still works as I haven't used it in years)
Mike - uhhhh??????????? Now THAT image is frighteningDave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

Well Lets say I have some pics , I did get it running and picked up a drive shaft that was missing . 5 different shafts depending on engine and trans set up . This one is the 351 w M code with a FMX boat anchor .
Also not much repop for these so locating parts are just as fun as the old tin . Anyway SSSSHHHH I found this when I went to get a fender from a guy who lives real close man am I going into the dog house soon . I hid it in the back of the garage , if she askes my story is I bought some parts , it's just that they are all still attached .
