'38 Ford deck lid vs 37 Ford deck lid

Hey, here's a question for you Ford guys: Will a '38 Ford humpback sedan deck lid fit on a '37 Ford humpback sedan? They kinda look the same except for the handle & license plate holder but are the dimensions really the same?

The deck lid on my 37 humpback is in kinda bad shape. I've located one from a '38 but it's in another state so I can't really try it on.

    Thanks!!

Don't know for sure, but an ad on EvilBay hints that they are the same - 1937 FORD HUMPBACK TRUNK LID 1938? | eBay

Yes, Roger, I saw that one. That's why I'm asking the question. That deck lid is actually a '38 according to pictures I've found and it's written "38F" on the lid. He's suggesting it also fits '37 but I wanna be sure before I consider taking the plunge. Thanks a bunch for your response. ;-)

    Randy,
I wondered if that was the one you had seen - the only other thing I've seen is a place that does patch panels 1937-40 Ford Sheet Metal They might be able to tell you if the trunk panels fit or not? Might be worth a phone call...

Hey Roger, I placed a call to that place but they were out. Hopefully, they'll respond to my message. In the meantime, here are a few pics of the 37 vs 38 rear ends for comparison. It looks to me like they only changed the rear fenders, the trunk handle and license plate location but left the body sheetmetal the same.
Since I still haven't figured out how to write between the pics, the one with the whitewall tires is the 37 (for anyone who doesn't know...).

On the pic's, after you've listed the file names and clicked "Upload Files" they are shown in the box "Attachments" and at the lower right there's a couple of buttons. Click "Insert Inline" before you click "Done", and your attachments will be shown in your text string. I usually put a space between them and any other text to make it easier to highlight them individually, but you can move them around within your existing text, or you can hit "Enter" between the "Attachment" strings and add whatever text you want. If you go back to your last post, click "Edit", "Go Advanced" and then "Manage Attachments" you should be able to do it from there.

I agree, it sure looks like the deck lids would be identical, but it would also be nice to find a definitive answer before dropping $$$$ on something that does not fit.

    Randy,
It's a $20 book, but this might tell you some things 1937-1938 Ford Car & Pickup Truck Reprint Body Parts List

Added - Also adding to the compatiblity, http://www.cgfordparts.com/wwwsectio...els.html#TRUNK lists different parts for the under trunk panels for all but the 4dr Humpback, but that one says it fits '37 and '38.

That's a good observation about the hinges, Bobby. I hadn't noticed that yet. The deck lid for sale appears to have holes for the hinges but the '38's in the various pics we've posted are smooth. It does have the '38 style handle and license plate though......interesting...

Randy sounds like some one had it on a 37 already and left the 38 handle . You would most likely have to sheet metal the handle area in to place the correct 37 on it .

Actually, I have the handle shaved on my old deck lid and have a cable operated remote by the seat. I think the handle was missing when I bought my 37 back in college. I would probably shave this one, too.

The seller posted more pics of the trunk lid per my request. The big question is whether the flaws make it worth the price....hmmmm eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
