Yeah, it's scary how long this car was driven, and how far. It'll be refreshing knowing what's really done to it now.

Today I got a late start but was able to get some stuff done. I got the LH rear boxing plate welded on the top and tacked on the bottom. I sat my gas tank in there to get a look at what clearance I have. There is a lot from what I can tell without the body on. For now, my plan is to box the back portion of the frame behind where I stopped, but go from the lower lip straight up under the top frame lip so the tank can still be angled and dropped out.

I think I've changed my mind on my plan of attack too. I had planned on cleaning up the bottom side of my floor and painting it, then sticking the body back on the frame after I painted areas of the frame. Now I'm back to reality. I'm going to have to place the body on the frame after I get the rear suspension brackets tacked on, and check axle placement. At this point I'll have to fix my front suspension, re-install the engine and trans, then finish my trans cross member and X member connector junctions. I will also have to squeeze my brake pedal set up in there and then make the according floor mods. Also, I'll have to add a C notch to the rear frame rails after I have the rear axle placed where it needs to be. Then remove the body, and paint everything. There's still a lot left to do. This doing stuff correctly and in half way backwards order is a PITA!

I would like to replace my tank and get a larger one. Thanks for the pictures of the mounts that helps. Is your tank, stock size or larger? Do you know if they add the extra gallon or so on by making the bottom lower? If so, I have a hitch to contend with. Keep on working, you are doing good.

Scooting, how have you been? Good I hope.

This tank is a 16gal tank from Tanks Inc. Stock size is I believe 14gal and I believe you're correct in they extend the bottom of the tank down to get the extra capacity. I can measure my original tank to give you an idea how far it will hang down. My car had a hitch but I removed it. If we go on any long trips we'll need a second vehicle to help haul our little circus anyway.

Here is a link for the tank on their site.

I didn't have enough time today to get anything done to the car. Maybe tomorrow.

I haven't had any extra time to touch the 40. But I have been searching for images of 40's getting ideas and just trying to see how different things look on them I haven't seen before.

Here is a 40 I found on ebay and it happens to have the wider rear fenders. They don't look as hideous as I thought they would look on a sedan. I have a set of these and plan to use them to use the same size tire I have but get it away from the body and still be able to have the car low to the ground.

I'm also going bumperless and I found some pics of a couple of them without them as well. These are more for inspiration than anything else.

Hmmm....the fender width is fine if the tire is wide/tall enough to fill it up....that one doesn't in my opinion....

I'm talking about the black one....

I agree Randy. I don't think you'll be able to see how wide the tire is in the rear very well though because my rear end will probably set a few inches lower than this one.

Yes Ryan, those fenders look good on that car and the only thing I would change on it if I had it, it needs wider wheel / tyres underneath them. I would lose the drain pipe exhausts also but hey, it's not mine so I will shut up.

Wish I had super wide rear fenders... But then again it would mean a repaint and the cost of that is out of reach. Like the idea of the nose of a forty not having a bumper in front of it. Check out this 37 Chevrolet I met at a show this summer. His solution is kinda neat.

Mark, I'll eventually put as wide as a tire as I can fit in there for sure. Lol

Scooting, that's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing it.
