I finally made some time to work on the 40. The Upper towers are tacked in place. Next thing is to get my air bag mounts made. Then I'll weld in all the boxing plates and add my lower control arm tabs and gussets for extra support. Baby steps here it seems.Ryan

That looks nice. You've been doing your homework it appears.
Have you done an air ride before? Every once in awhile I consider re-doing my coupe with it...
then reality sets in when I think of all the work!!

Yep and then you could end up like me. The fuel pump burnt out and I purchased another, fitted that and then decided I should clean the tank out which in the end was cheaper getting a new stainless one made. While I had the tank out I decide I may as well shorten the rear frame down so that I could shorten the pickup bed to improve the lines. While I had the jigsaw in hand, I thought I should cut the moulded doors off and make opening doors each side so from one small job and than life's interruptions, the car still remains in pieces patiently waiting for me to put her all back together. Moral of story, if one has an extremely complete going car with no major issues, keep driving her otherwise one job leads to another.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Now you got me thinking about bags, I haven't even got my coil overs out of the box yet I think I will just stick with plan B. Plan A was rear leafs, it hasn't even been on the road yet and I'm changing that.Seth

I haven't personally done air ride in something this light. Just pick ups. It's a pretty big difference in ride quality. It can have it's draw backs too. Like if a bag blows what will you do, and you really need to have sway bars and such. The ride quality and having the car vary ride heights is what hooked me. I was going to go springs all the way around before but like everything else, plans changed.Ryan

Does anyone have any good leads on the 02 ish Mustang hydraboosts? None of the yards around here have any and the cheapest one on flebay I've seen was $250. I hate to use a pick up one but I have a couple of them setting around. HahaRyan

Thanks for that Randy. I bet there are some astro vans in the yards around here.
Today I was able to get the pieces cut and fit to mount the RH air bag. I still have some work to do for it to be completed. I think I'm going to notch the frame a little so there are no clearance issues with the bag. Right now, when cycled clear up, the top bellow just touches the frame. I also will be installing a bump stop as well.
I ordered front shocks, brackets, and a new starter last night. I have Friday off and half of Saturday to work on this. I'd really like to get the rear suspension fitted and tacked in. Having the car almost be a roller again will be huge motivational points.Ryan

This morning I was able to get the LH bag mounts made and half done. Hopefully by Saturday afternoon I can put the wheels on it and put air to the bags and watch it go up and down.Ryan

"......and watch it go up and down......"
Yeah, I can see that and a couple of beers taking up the rest of the day
.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

It was a great weekend. We had great weather, and I got some stuff done. Not enough done, but that's how it goes. We took the kids to a hotel with some pools in it to celebrate my middle child's 5th birthday. Then on Sunday we had his birthday party. So, needless to say, I didn't get to put the suspension back together and play upsy downy with it.
I got all the cross member welded up, ground, and partially dressed. I added some gussets for the lower control arms, and some to the front of the cross member. My thinking is since I already know I have a heavy engine, set the chassis up to handle it now rather than later. I ended up having to notch the frame so my rack will clear also. I did that this morning. I also plated the outside of the frame to add strength since it is notched. I might do it to the inside as well.Ryan
