No more progress here except for getting a few small parts here and there. I came to the realization that I won't get to work on the poor 40 until the snow flies. But, it'll get it's time.Ryan

I'm still at it, just not on this car. I may dig it out and set the engine and trans in the frame just to see how it fits in there. I'm anxious to get this going again. I sure hated not having it together this summer. Right now I'm trying to figure out if I want to change tires and wheels, or leave them. I want to drop it pretty low, or safe low and level. Haha I'd also like a wider rear tire, so we'll see where that goes. I don't really want to tub it because this body is really rust free. I might just have to live with what is back there for now. I'm not really digging the wider rear fenders either. IDKRyan

I enjoyed this car too. Even thought it was not what the car should be.
I had a slight set back on direction of this car, but measurements brought me back to reality................ Now, as I was trying to convince my self I could do what I wanted to do. (Which I failed at. LOL) I made the descion I'm going to replace the hacked in MII cross member for sure. Now I have to decide if I want to buy a weld in cross member or a bolt in style.Ryan

I'm trying to figure out what wheels I want to go with. I know a lot of you guys are old school and despise big wheels and small tires. I'm not trying to go for all wheel and no tire, but I'd like my car lower to the ground and I'd like the wheel and tire to fill up the wheel well and look better. I'm thinking of going with 17x7s in the front and 18x8s in the rear. I found this style wheel which I think will look good on it. What do you guys think? I'm trying to pick a wheel that every other car or truck doesn't have on them. I went with the halibrand replicas and then they are every where now. This is getting harder and harder when you're on a budget build like me. HahaRyan

I really like those wheels, but if it were me I would probably go more toward 17's rear, 16's front and then pick tires to get the drop you want rear to front, shooting for at least 5" of sidewall. But then, I'm one of those "old school" guys who literally HATES rubber band tires on just about everything.Roger

I hear that. I'll have to see if they make that wheel in 16".Ryan

Ryan, I agree 100%. Figure out your overall diameters and shop for tires that make it work. Taller tires can be your friend when working the gear ratios, allowing some taller rear gear numbers for play while still supporting good cruise rpm's. Go for the overall look you want to achieve. The way the tire market is today 16's will likely be the next size to disappear from the "normal" sizes.Last edited by rspears; 11-24-2012 at 10:41 AM.

Yep, you're right guys. I need to check out some tire sizes and see what's available. I think these in 17" and 18" in the rear will be what I go with. My front end will be able to get lower and handle a taller tire set up correctly unlike how it was.Ryan

Have any of you guys used the rear 4-link kit for the 35-40's from Speedway? I'm contemplating getting it and ditching my rear leaf springs and going air bags or coil overs.

Don't know about either one, but you might call the guys at Pete & Jake's and talk to them about their 4-bar setup - Pete & Jake's: Catalog Speedway might be re-branding the Pete & Jake's parts?Roger
