That's a bite! Some states have a search for lost title but that could wind up being a PIA. You might be better off stepping away and find another one somewhere.

I'm not sure if you know this, but '53 was the first year that Buick used the nailhead V8. I doubt there's much difference in the engine bays, but you should be aware that the car came with a V8 and will most likely have motor mount stands for a V8. I don't remember if they're different, just giving you a heads-up. The transmission mounts might be different also.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

I have one book that says straight 8 was available in Special---another book calls it a straight 8 264 for 53 and then calls it a v8 264 54/55--probably a typo---however in that car a 425 nail head would be great, maybe even dual quad wildcat!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A good mate of mine has just imported a beautiful '54 Buick convertible.
It's gorgeous.
He went through the certification bureaucracy bull****, went to register it, and they wanted to give him the plate GAY692.
The GAY was bad enough...but (or should that be 'butt') 69too!!
Basil refused the plate.
True dat. I laughed and laughed when his wife told me...he wouldn't.
Just thought I"d throw that in.
Hope it all works out okay for ya Billy zz!

Very cool car and a great price! That's one classy looking dashboard. As far as the title, there's usually some way to get one. There's a little known process in Missouri called a bonded title application that one of my friends has done a few times. Or just find a parts car close to the same year with a title.Last edited by falconvan; 07-28-2012 at 05:24 AM.

I'm not usually a fan of green, but the two tone green scheme speaks to me.
On the registration you really need to research the NM laws and local practices before you go too far. Around here swapping a VIN tag to use the title from a different car can be classified as fraud and can get you in a heap of trouble (I think it can be a felony if they want to press it, and can get the car impounded for sure). Our local DMV looks close at the type of fastener on the VIN plate, comparing back to records of what the OEM used and checking for any matching numbers, like on the frame, etc. A friend had a vintage '51 Packard that had never been touched, and they accused him of swapping the VIN plate - turned out that the factory used two different rivets in that era, but the gal doing the inspection did not take time to check that fact. No disrespect to anyone, but the point is local practice rules, and what works in Kansas, Missouri, or any other state is not really of any value in your NM process. Do your homework before you head down a path toward a mess. Just my $0.02 on the process.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
Thank you Roger. .
