Both color combos look great. What is really cool is the contrast of how the car looks so different from red/white combo to the twotone green. Either would look great, as would a white/blue combo!

On the registration you really need to research the NM laws and local practices before you go too far. Around here swapping a VIN tag to use the title from a different car can be classified as fraud and can get you in a heap of trouble (I think it can be a felony if they want to press it, and can get the car impounded for sure). Our local DMV looks close at the type of fastener on the VIN plate, comparing back to records of what the OEM used and checking for any matching numbers, like on the frame, etc. A friend had a vintage '51 Packard that had never been touched, and they accused him of swapping the VIN plate - turned out that the factory used two different rivets in that era, but the gal doing the inspection did not take time to check that fact. No disrespect to anyone, but the point is local practice rules, and what works in Kansas, Missouri, or any other state is not really of any value in your NM process. Do your homework before you head down a path toward a mess. Just my $0.02 on the process.
i refuse to commit fraud over any car.
    like i said
if it turns out to just be impossible (not likely) to make this particular car legal.
we will buy another one just like it with a title
and transfer all the good parts over to the titled vehicle.
a hot rod is whatever i decide it is.

    Billy,
I mis-understood your approach. Some people in the past have bought a junker just to get the title, then swapped VIN tags or otherwise presented their untitled vehicle as the one that matches the title. I totally agree that your approach is 100% legal, using your non-titled vehicle as a parts car to build out a titled vehicle. Hopefully you can find a way with the NM DMV to get your paperwork clear.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

    no sweat buddy.
i belong to a bunch of hot/rat rod forums and am always dumbfounded by all these guys that are openly willing to commit felony fraud.
    i just dont get it.
titling correctly my 27 was a breeze and took about 45 minutes and $60 at the DMV.
I JUST DID MY HOMEWORK FIRST AND FOLLOWED EVERY SINGLE THING THE NICE LADY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO DO.
then she walked outside with me,
told me my car was cute (grrrr cute....)
and asked me where i wanted my VIN plate.
a hot rod is whatever i decide it is.

That Buick is gonna be a sweet ride, i'd keep the straight eight and numbers matching as much as possible. You don't get too many chances to keep them as original as this one is. I would be concentrating on the elegance and detail. Add a few creature comforts and that will be a cruiser without peer.

my gal simply fell in love with this car.
and i am so happy to be able to help her with her dream.
it will take a lot of time and money.
but so far as i can tell
all it is missing is the hood ornament and it needs a new windshield.
