Thanks for posting this Robin! Hope this stays at the top for awhile so that all concerned get the info and pass it on to others who may have one of these faulty axles!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Usually these type of stories get reported and commentary runs the gammut of speculation. Good that there was some actual failure analysis that at least narrows the possible causes to a few, and sets the cause firmly as a process/material one, along with being a comparatively limited issue. Since we haven't heard much about this I'd say Magnum hasn't been as agressive as they could be in getting these pulled back. Given the litigious nature of our country they're one accident away from extinction. Hope no rodder gets hurt seriously by one of these.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Ok, this may sound a little random given the topic, but I kinda like the color of that truck. I saved it in my "colors to consider for my car" file.
It is unfortunate that his Magnum axle, which shares its name with a condom for the "larger than average" guy, had a malfunction that could have been deadly.

As I recall, at least one of the previous discussions about a similar axle failure was in a thread that Ken Thurm started about a roadster in his group that veered off the roadway and had a snapped axle - don't know if it was or was not a Magnum. I don't think they determined if that axle snapped, causing the accident, or if the break was due to impact. As Bob points out, one would hope that Magnum takes a pro-active stance and looks into the production run that this specific failed axle came out of, and initiates a recall & replace of any suspect units. The intro page to their catalog, which sings praises of the experience the two partners bring to the business, is quick to point out that their liability excludes any consequential damages, and is limited to replacing any component that they determine, after their examination, to be defective.Roger

I think in the article(without going back in to read it),mentions that it was a batch of 500,,and after talking to a guy down here who stocks Magnums,he said that he (Magoo's Rod Shop),was never told there was a problem, and seemed to be reluctant to say which batch they were from..
Randy...yes,it is a nice color..Like the truck a whole lot,too..Only glad it happened at low speed, turning into an entrance..Micah 6:8

I think this is the photo that Ken Thurm posted last year. I said it then and will again, this axle was already strength compromised and then broke when the guy went off the road:
Sorry the photo is so small, but that's how it copied.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug
Thank you Roger. .
