Okay, time to get back on track after being out of town for the long holiday weekend.
The fellas got all the sheathing and wrap done, most of the soffits and fascia, the posts and a few other things. Only one small mistake made while I wasn't here to keep an eye on them, so not too bad. Meanwhile the concrete guys came and finished up the forming and steel work so they can be ready to pour tomorrow (Wednesday). Electrician showed up today so we got all the boxes in and began stringing wire, that should be wrapped up tomorrow. Plumber will be in tomorrow as well to get his rough in done, while the trim guys finish the work on the side porch and fix their goof up. Nice progress I'd say.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Nice that you guys keep interest in what's going on here. While probably a bit fancier than just a "garage", in part because of our residential setting, it's far from a Garage-mahal. No paint booth needs in my life anymore Mike, at most I'll be doing small parts which can be done on calm days hanging on racks in the back yard. Ken, total window count is 5, two on the one long wall, and two on the other plus the upper half of the man door. The main driver for that is wall space needs, I find that more valuable to me than the light provided. To compensate I'm putting in an array of LED fixtures, 11 total putting out about 80000 lumens total...............the electrician was laughing about that today. But when I reminded him how much we old guys need more light to continue to see stuff he just got that "oh yeah" look on his face.
Most of what happened today wasn't very photo worthy, but this one item does add some POP to the overhang of the man door. Will get a dark stain to enhance the bead board. If all goes well tomorrow we'll get a small ocean of concrete.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

For those who don't know Uncle Bob, his story is encouraging to all of us. His humble beginnings are nothing short of inspirational....how he joined the Air Force at an early age and got immediately assigned to aircraft carrier duty....until someone told him that the US Air Force didn't have carriers. He rose to the rank of some emblem with a star and wings. After leaving the AF, he gravitated into the auto body business....he was what we now consider "poor"; so poor that he had to pound patch panels out of steel beer cans. He did paint work using what little paint he could catch in the air near an exhaust fan of the local body shop. Insurance adjusters feared Bob; he was known for putting a lacquer-soaked rag over the adjuster's nose when negotiations got tense. As a hobbyist, Bob was equally creative, turning a single piece of metal into a full car using only materials at hand. Swap meet vendors feared Bob, grandmothers with car parts did also. Finally, Bob had an epiphany to move to the land where clear heads rule...Texas. There he and his bride are building their retirement home that we see today. And the vendors and grandmothers in Texas are really afraid.

I wasn't thinking of light, cross breeze unless of course it will have central air and heat.
I have 5 4 footers in my garage and changed them all over to LED earlier this year, best move I've made. I had to rewire the fixtures and the 10 bulbs were $80. They're much brighter than fluorescents.Ken Thomas

The current windows are on the walls that would benefit from prevailing wind directions here, but with 3 garage doors on the other two walls it should be pretty flexible for breeze control if I planned correctly. But I'm also installing HVAC for comfort...............I'm OLD, I deserve it!Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Uncle Bob, have the concrete guys worked out the levels and where the ground water flow will be and end up on that big piece of Texas ? Is there a soak hole or drainage for the run off been allowed for when the concrete is set ? I know I'm only looking at photo's but to me it looks like the water may pool and then flood into the garden area between the driveway and house.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Observant of you to be concerned. Fortunately I've got some pretty good subs on this job. Both the guy responsible for the dirt/base work, and the landscapers started with concerns/discussions about drainage so it was as much of a priority for them as it would be for me. The concrete guys have a very good runoff slope layout that will mostly drain off into that area where the first new expansion joint shows. That will drain into a swale that follows the property line just a few feet away to the right in the pic. It's a bit hard to see accurately in the pictures, and of course we haven't even gotten to dealing with final grade on the soil. We did have a short but intense rain storm last night and that spot you mentioned is currently a hole, but there is no sign of water this morning. Our soil here perks (if that doesn't translate to kiwi let's say absorbs) pretty well, so water management doesn't require extreme measures.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
