    Finding Ford Rims

I am seriously wanting to change the wheels on my '62 Fairlane and get rid of the full stainless racing wheel covers. I am also wanting to change the rim size from 16" in the rear and 14" in the front to 15" all the way around. In addition to this I am wanting to use some Ford dog dish hubcaps that a friend sent me See Pic. The problem I am having is finding the proper rim that will accommodate this dog dish caps. The backs are 11" diameter and need a rim that has a ridge that size to snap on to. I am also aware that I may end up in the wheel graveyard rummaging through until I find something but I was wondering if any members out there had any suggestions as to locating some rims. I certainly don't mind buying new rims, if I can find the right ones.

Is that 11" diameter the OD or the ID, where the ID fits over the "nibs" on the wheel? Coker sells OEM Ford wheels, but they list a 10 1/8" ID for the caps that fit - O.E. Style Ford Wheel - 15x6

What I think you are looking for is the same wheels I had on my 36 coupe. They were Mercury/Ford pickup wheels which had a larger center opening to accommodate the front spindle and therefore had a larger center. I had 50 Mercury dog dish caps on the 36.

Roger, I did talk with Coker and found out they didn't have what I needed and I meant to say the I.D. of the back of the hubcap is 11"
THanks Ken, I'll sure use that as browser and asking around info - - - that may be just what I need to find them. (fingers crossed)
Jerry, I don't think they were 13" but they very well could have been 14" OEMs.

I haven't had any luck online and it might be because the dog dishes are PU caps ?????

The bolt pattern is 5 by 4.5 - - - is that the pattern your 36 had, Ken?

Maybe call the guys at Wheelsmith for their "Vintage" wheel - Wheelsmith - Vintage Wheels and Accessories Note their statement that they'll modify your hubcaps to fit their wheel....

Thanks Roger, I'll calll them Monday along with Stockton Wheels that Richard turned me onto.
Hey Ken, the more I browse for pics and add that magic word "truck" the more I think these sure could be pickemup hubcaps.

I might have 2 15x7s from my 40 that might work for you. I'll see if I still have them.

15 or 16, mine were 15, except the rears were reversed and I was told the wheels were Buick or Olds with Ford/Merc centers since they were a tad wider.

Funny you should mention that, Ken, a friend of mine on HR.com said that mid-80s Ford LTD police car hubs that were 11" and they even worked on his old Mercury rims. So between the truck factor and the police cruiser factor, maybe I can find me some rims now.

Stovens, let me know about the wheel after you measure the hubcap rim and bolt pattern. THen I'll have to see if 7" will lwork under the rear fenders. Gonna be raining for a couple of days so no rush at all.

    Thanks as always Y"all,
    Em

Life is strange - - - after asking the feller what the hubcaps came off of, he said a 70s or 80s something or another but didn't know for sure - - - - he posted today that they fit a 89 Grand Marquis - - - - I could understand if I did that but he's not that old Oh well, I've got some asking and browsing ammo now so I should be good to go.

    Quick Follow Up:
Roger, I called Wheel Smiths and they knew what I needed and have the ability to fix me up. I also called Stockton Wheels and got the same results. Ken's comment about the PU and Merc possibility also opened up some options. Now, I have to get busy and start measuring so I can order the correct size. As most of you know, once you get away from bone stock, it's not just height and width and hole pattern but also offset and turning clearance ETC. I'm even thinking about having them powder coated in an appropriate blue but haven't decided definitely yet. Decisions decisions

No rush, Ryan, I'm certainly in no hurry and ?if? they will work and we can work it out then I'll only have to look for two more.
?Hiding Place? I have a few of those especially since the last move into a smaller place.

I might have an interest in the wheels you have depending on width and backspace--------
