2002 WS6 Trans Am??
I have a chance to buy a 2002 WS6 Trans Am convertible for $5000. Is that a fair price? It does have over 100k on the car but everything works and is in good condition. Do you think this will be a future collectible? A little over 2000 were made and it is the last Trans Am made. How's the durability on the LS1 engine and are they expensive to rebuild?
Thanks DonLivin' on Route 66

Got a pic of that,Don?? Sounds like the Aussie based body,,maybe.. If it is,,we never got them as a convertible.. I am led to believe the LS1 is a good engine,,but have no experience to back that up.. If only 2000 odd were built,,,it would have to be a reasonable bet,,that one day,,before we all kark it,,it will be a good item..
Price is kool from where I'm sitting,,cos that's only $5800 NZ,,plus freight and all the ugly costs,,but being a limited production,,it would be able to be used LHD down here.. Hmmmppphh,,not that that helps me.. I'm broke... hehe..Micah 6:8

I've seen the yellow collectors editions go for $20-30k. Most 02 WS6s I've seen in the $5-15k range. I may have a buyer to it already too.Livin' on Route 66

Seems like a good deal to me. WS6 cars around here bring $3500-$5000 with the front ends smashed in.Ryan

As far as your question on LS1 durability. Being it is a 02 car it is a toss up which block it has. The LS6 blocks are a bit stronger due to the webbing differences in the block. Overall I have pushed a factory short block LS1 over 750hp. What killed it was the kid that bought the car flipped it end over end. The factory short block made that number from 79K miles to 96K without a single problem.
Now the iron block versions have been known to make over 4 figures with turbos and hold up decent for what you are asking of factory hardware.
The overall cost for rebuild is a bit steep on them. Most knowledgeable builders will do the rebuild for around 2000.00 for the short block and 3500 plus for the longblock. DO NOT take it to your normal small block guy and expect great results.
They can be picky with lifters and oil pumps.
As far as the price is considered it all depends on the condition. Extremely clean Fbodys around the DFW area bring about 7000-9000 with 100K on them.
