Dreaming again
I have a work car, as I call it, use it to drive 70 miles a day, pick up parts etc. Would love to fix up a old pick up to replace it with down the road. Old chev, 305, 700R, subframe, 10 bolt rearend. Something that would get decent gas mileage and wouldn't have to have nice paint and all the shiney stuff. Patina look, steel wheels, with decent handling. Like I said, dreaming, but soon as I get my 51 dodge done, I'd like to work on this. Anybody got anything like this that would want to share some pics?

My favorite is a '64-'66 Chevy shortbed stepside with the 292 six banger and a granny four-speed. Don't give two hoots what the body or paint looks like, as long as the mechanicals are superb. A very good friend of mine, who passed on 5 years ago, used to profess "avoid the display of wealth". We agreed on that. The last vehicle I put a nice paint job on was done in nitrocellulose lacquer, so that tells you how long it has been.

I had a 68 GMC yrs ago on a 79 chassis, 305, 600 holley, headers, with a truck 4 speed. Mileage was in the lower 20's and it handled great. Until some crazy woman hit me head on while I was stopped at a stop sign.

you guys are all talking about "jethro" my 69c10 pickumup.
bought from a 74yr old Texan-who'd owned it since new, crashed it a couple of times an drove it all round texas but has never seen the ocean an was chuffed to find out his truck was in "new zeeland".
I drove it for a couple of years til the balancer was ready to fall off the crank on the 250i6 then stripped it down to bare chassis rails , fixed everything that needed to be fixed an pq-15 everything and then slapped on a coat of blue paint outside my garage - put in a 305 smblk, left the 4-spd (with the granny 1st gear) an 4.11 12-bolt lsd.
I drive it nearly everyday - abuse the heck out of it- do skids at the traffic lights - cart heaps of stuff and can honestly say it is the most favourite of all my vehicles
have just about finished a rebuild of a 292 i6 to go back in and intend to clock up heaps more smiles per mile!!!
as bought
with a few things done to it
rebuild time!
finished!
doing what a good pickup should!!

My 72 was supposed to be a daily driver with good mileage. Then high performance stuff took over. I'm planning to go back to just a beefy hauler/daily driver.Ryan

Well, to offer something "Ford-like" to your dreaming process.... here's my daily driver - '66 Ford F100 shortbed. Last year I swapped in a fuel injected 5.0/AOD. In the next month or so I'm going to be dropping it 3" and adding 17" steelies. Someday, I'd like to have nice paint but for now it's great not to worry about scratches, etc....
