Thread: Anyone have any experience with M/T Sportsman S/R tires?

I'm looking to buy new tires for the back of my corvette and get the car set up to drive on the street. I'd like to get 29x18x15's or 30x18x15's if I can. I don't want to buy a tire that will be horrible if you get caught in the rain. I've seen a lot of the sportsman s/r's at shows but never spoke to anyone who actually drive with them. I used to have regular sportsmans and I don't want to go back to them. Any input on these or a known good tire this size is greatly appreciated.

The hardest part of wheel/tire "packages", is that the like / dislike factor can change in a matter of days or weeks..

For me sometimes hours!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of options for tires big and wide. I've seen decent reports about the m/t's, but not much on the hoosiers. I'm just trying to make a good choice. Because I'll be stuck with them for a while.

One thing that jumped out at me looking at Hoosier's was that the brand new tread depth seemed to be pretty slim, so you may not have them as long as you think....

That was one of my concerns as well. The M/T's look to have a decent amount of tread, and say in their description they work great in the rain. That is my main concern. These rides get squirrley in the rain with near smooth big wide back tires. The only bad comments I've seen on either tire was people complaining they don't hook up on the street. I'm not really worried about that. I just want to be able to drive it and not worry about ruining my DOT drag tires.

Here's my experience for what it's worth. Had M/T's on both cars and was not happy with them. The 32 now has Hoosiers in back (29x15.50x15) and Pirelli's in front. The 28 has Hoosiers all around (31x18.50x15). Love them....
Here's the difference, however my needs in a tire might be different than yours. The M/T's were lousy in the rain, would not hook up, and would flat spot after sitting in the garage for a week (not fun to have to drive them 5 miles to get them round again).
The Hoosiers are very good in the rain (you should see the rooster tail they kick up), do not flat spot after sitting for awhile, and offer a more stable tracking IMO. (on a windy day, a 2 lane road, 75mph with semi's blowing past in the other lane, the 28 tracks like it's on rails). The 32 is not quite as good due to the higher cab. As for high mileage and wear, I've only had them about a year so I can't tell you. So far they haven't shown much. All this is just my opinion, your results may vary of course. I'm very happy with them.

Thanks for the input Milner! I'll be happy if the car gets 1000 miles put on it. Right now I just don't have time to work on it so it may be a while before I buy the new tires for it.
